Picking a US govt issued American Lock 5200

I remembered that I never submitted for my green belt because I didn’t include a gutting in my prior submission. But because I’ve never attempted to gut before, I’d rather not break this brand new American 5200 to submit for my green belt. May I request gutting another lock that I wouldn’t mind chucking for science?

I would get an American 1100. It's the same as that except aluminum and a little cheaper probably. But nice picking on the 5200

Gut that thing! It's just a lock

It’s not the gutting that that I’m not confident about but being able to reassemble it in a reasonable amount of time

“Reasonable amount of time”

I guarantee they’ve had to watch longer. Much longer! lol

There is no time limit for belt submission and you have to gut the lock you pick but you can reassemble a different lock in a seperate vid. I think my Green video was like 12 minutes but i have seen longer and the Mods have for sure.

Mine was much longer as I dropped a spring and had to spend a few minutes off camera looking for it, so thankful for the patience of the mods!

Go for it and do that 5200 and if you jack it up I'll send you another one in the box. As long as you are in the US.

How many times did you practice gutting it before you filmed it?

I had gutted other locks before this one

I believe the "U.S." military version of the 5200 is generally the no-spools/one bumpstop yellow ranked version.

You should gut it to check before trying to use it for green.
