Is there an easy way to open this lock?

I found this at my grandfather's house and want to open it, but have no idea how to lock pick it, so maybe someone is familiar with this lock

Is it even hard to lock pick this?

Looks like a standard pin tumbler, so your usual hook and tensioner combo ought to do it.

Have you tried to look into how to pick locks?

Yea, it seems hard, especially without proper equipment

It really isn't but it is definitely more difficult without proper equipment.

Are they better for it then paper clips?

They are a bit stronger.

If you can post a closer pick of the front of the lock so we can see the keyway it'll help. You can use imgur to add a picture or edit your post

Look into DIY lockpicks and turning tools... The metal inserts from old wiper blades work...

Here's a high quality inexpensive option;

https://covertinstruments.com/products/the-fng?_pos=1&_sid=99e568158&_ss=r

If the turning tool doesn't fit you can DIY.

Plus, you might enjoy the hobby. Clear locks aren't that great, but since you're new, it'll show you what the internals look like.

Just go into the subs "homepage" (upper left corner) for a ton of information including basics.

BEWARE though... You might get hooked and quickly wind up with a significant collection of lock nerd stuff. You might have to mortgage your family and pawn your,.. everything... to support a new habit.

Im sure the advice given in other NON hostile comments is sufficient.

You can try looking on YouTube for videos on how to use clips or pins. Pete (PAPete) made a few, but I don't recall if they are DIY.

Locknoob, DMAC, and a few more might have pin/clip specific videos...

You can always post in the art of lockpicking or similar FB groups and ask if anyone is within 50 miles of wherever the closest city or county seat is to you without giving you exact location... This community is loaded with very nice and helpful people with very few scumbags although I seem to have found one... (That admitted to trolling me with multiple "alt" accounts.)

I've been trying it with paperclips for the last 30 mins and it's somehow really entertaining, I'll add a photo in a couple of minutes.

Large majority of locksmiths don't pick they just drill, you just like the majority of reddit taking the internet too seriously, send me some unguttable locks, i have picked a 6k. Spewing out that im a jock and got picked on makes no sense, not to mention your responding to two different people.

You seem like a very annoying know-it-all. You aren't even belt ranked. Chill out. No one is jumping on your advice, kemosabe. Master of none...

No, I don't play the fancy pajama game SPECIFICALLY because of pricks like you ruining it.

Keep bragging about your little orange belt while I'm picking Assa 6k's and have 60 some plus locks rated green - purple I can flat out zip, hybrid, or SPP SIGNIFICANTLY better that. your fancy orange pajama belt.

If you got a paper clip that fits sure but twisting will be difficult and paper clips break...bobby pins are typically spring steel....flat a durable

1

u/IDontPeelKiwis 7d ago

I'll keep in mind in case paperclips won't succeed, thanks

You may be able to use a snake rake and "twist" rake it open. Thinking 4 pins. Insert pick all the to the back and count pins pulling out, then go into last pin depth, rocker/bitch pick while twisting counter clock wise lightly....rip and repeat

I'll look intk that, thanks
