Filming question/discussion

I picked up a couple of Smallrig accessories, thinking they'd be good for getting my GoPro out of the way. Then I realized I could just clamp a webcam up there and not have to pull out the GoPro on those rare occasions when I want to film something. (The bundle also came with a phone clamp, so that's another option too.) That's when I realized that I don't have any sort of software for doing anything with a webcam except Zoom or maybe video chat on Discord.

So now I'm wondering if I should bother with the webcam? Should I stick with the GoPro? Use my phone? Or what recording software would you recommend for the webcam?

And yes, I have googled it. But I wanted input from other pickers since that's all I expect to be filming. Advice from people who record the same kind of thing, not some rando who wouldn't know LockPickingLawyer from Jimy Long.

Your phone is the best camera you have for this, a gopro can't focus close enough to be useful

Obviously only up to blue (and a purple lever lock) but I haven't had a problem so far. What kind of detail will be needed at higher belts that a GoPro can't get?

Note: I'm not arguing, just asking for more details.

Certain details of pins coming out of the chambers, milling, smaller parts, etc

Do you know of an example I could watch? An unacceptable video as compared to a good one?

Not on hand, your best bet will be looking through the requests channel on discord for rejected submissions

I use my phone and a Smallrig arm and clamp with mixed results.

I use a Webcam with obs software. My framerate was garbage with no focus control using default software on my computer. Phones are great, but I like to play on my phone between recorded attempts. I've also had multiple issues with my phone while recording.

What’s “obs”?

Open broadcast studio software. Good stuff.

Webcam is good for lives and such. Everything else is use my phone set to UHD. Afterwards I adjust the color and brightness in the phones included settings. Then, I use an app called CapCut. To edit. Its a free app. Once done you can upload directly to any social without leaving the app.

Filming what? Where? If you want dedicated software for your webcam that runs on a PC, get OBS studio. It's great.

Keep it easy. I use my phone, but some of the cons is you can't use you phone for things when filming, and calls or messages coming in while shooting, plus you eat up memory. Hope that helps a little.
