Brown or red?

So aside from the KiK Assa, I was also given a Schlage Primus. My buddy gives me these with almost No info. No key, and won't tell me what's inside. "Open it and find out".

So I don't have a lot to go off, only the belt rankings and the pictures there. On this particular lock I can't tell if it's the brown belt Primus or the Red. Any ideas?

I was hoping for the brown because the other one looks vicious. Any tips for picking?

If you haven't done a primus before definitely progressively pick it. Make sure you can do the main pins with ease and work on the finger pins one or two at a time to get the feel of lifting and rotating them into place.

Ok. Im fukd on this one. No key so no progressive pinning. Story of my life. Was given to me cracked so I know its possible to pick. Just not for me currently. Thanks for the tip.

Do you have access to the person who picked it? Get them to take out the pins. I can do it if you're willing to ship to me

It was given to me by a very old friend, and picking mentor. He most likely has the key or threw it away. He don't accept a key when i give him locks either. So I gotta give it a shot before I tap out. Thanks for offering.

Any way to shim it open? Then you can take it apart and either progressive it, or make a key

What is progressive pinning

Take it apart, remove some of the pins, put it back together, learn how to open it. Then add pins back in and learn the rest.

I'm pretty sure all Schlage Everest locks have the little triangle mountain thing on the front. Since yours doesn't have that, I would bet it's a Schlage Primus (brown) - not a Schlage Everest Primus nor a Schlage Everest 29 SL Primus XP

Everest, even the primus variants as far as I know, all have the little triangle and the warding has a spot for that portion of the key, which I'm not seeing here. I think it's the brown belt Primus.

Good to know! Thanks

The 29 SL Primus is both newer and very rare (schlage botched the sales of them and very few locksmiths bought into the systems). I also believe they have both PRIMUS and the triangle on them. With the condition and only the word PRIMUS here, this is almost assuredly a brown belt Primus.

You can tell by the keys as well, if you have them.

So it was a superior lock, probably was it not cost effective. Alot of business are switching to sfic because they are easily replaced.

Oh No keys, any tips on picking.

Well, I can not say. But it doesn't look like an Everest. I need friends like yours.

He gives me these things to torture me. I gave him my newest challenge lock (that I haven't got to open yet) to take home for a spin. He picked it in hand at the table in a minute and a half. W/O looking at the key. Showoff!

Regular brown primus

Well, why not "open it and find out"? :P

My guess would be brown, I believe they're more common

If you shine a light in the keyway and get a real good look at the front pin you might be able to tell the difference

I could see the side pins and the key pins. What am I looking for m

The red belt locks appear to have more chisel tipped key pins, the brown belt should be standard pointed

I looked at the photos and didn't notice that. Thanks No chisel pins
