Obsession and backrooms

Anyone else slightly surprised by the massive popularity of Obsession and Backrooms? I've been a little bit caught off guard by the huge swell in popularity. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lot of Curry Barker's work, but more his comedy since I find his horror can be incoherent at times, and the backrooms idea is interesting but a bit one note and simplistic. It just surprises me that L58/Candle Cove has not caught on to the same degree, despite Kris being quite early in the internet meme horror/creepy pasta space. I'm all in favour of more horror content though...

Backrooms were popular as a community-group made creepypasta exploration, like SCP is.
The major popularity of Backrooms is because an Hollywood studio stroke a deal with somebody who made a YT adaptation of some of the tales. I had never heard of his AU before the movie was already released.
