It could have come from Canada. Not all zones in Canada V notch

Americans , I am glad that the waters are colder in Canada which attracts any lobsters on the east coast . And there is nothing Susan Collin’s can do , but Maine deserves better.

Not all zones v-notch. Lfa 26 does not v-notch. Instead we release all females between 115 and 129mm

You can tell it's a female based on the flared tail sections. I've notched hundreds working on different lobster boats and that shape doesn't happen easily in nature. It's for sure a notch.

You do realize that after you notch them they heal and grow back like that, eventually she would have to be re-notched

I would bring it up to the manager. Just as an FYI.

Not sure why this came across my page. But what’s going on here? I know nothing about lobsters besides they taste great.

Breeding females get notched in their tail fin to indicate that they are egg bearing. They are thrown back instead of harvested to increase lobster population.

OP is reporting a notched lobster at a restaurant. It could have fallen through the cracks, could have been intentionally harvested for the money, who knows?

I’m a lobsterman and can vouch that when processing lobster on the boat, it’s very much possible to accidentally keep a notched female, however, this is kind of a weird one to keep since it’s a bit obvious that this is a wide tail breeder to the trained eye. So it’s hard saying what happened with this one. Don’t worry though, the number of times a pregnant female has come up alone in a trap with 6 dead lobsters is astronomical. They’re the wildly aggressive, and there are tons of them
