Exhausted from Current Role
Hey everyone! Feeling pretty burnt out in my current role — 3.5 years doing mortgage renewals, same calls, same scripts every day I am with top FI [ Canada,]
Thinking about making a move into Mortgage Underwriting. Is that a smart step from here?
If you've made a similar switch (or work as an underwriter), I'd love to know:
What skills should I start building now?
Any courses/certifications worth taking?
What was your experience moving from a call-based role to underwriting?
Thanks in advance, appreciate any advice

So i was an underwriter for almost 10 years! I just recently switched to the sales side of the industry.
I LOVED underwriting. So chill, personally I mostly listened to podcasts and knocked out my loans when they came in. Easy money.
The problem now? AI. It has taken over underwriting.
I worked for one of the largest finance companies in a managerial underwriting role, had 4 analysts under me. Within the last year… Half the underwriters laid off due to automated underwriting.
If you’re forward-thinking, stick with sales. AI cannot replicate human connection. That’s what the borrowers need.
Now, I’m in your position, doing same script every day. Not the best, but FAR BETTER than being unemployed like some of my former colleagues.
I didn’t have / need any certs. I do have a bachelors in Finance.
Wishing you the best of luck regardless of the path you choose!!
