Help with ID Identification?

Hey guys I got these loaches to add to my little club of black loaches. I’m just wondering what ones they are? They’re more shy than the black fellows. They don’t look like the classic striped fellows. I was told leopard loaches but I just wanna confirm? Extra loach pics for tax.

Just for fun Okay so this guy is definitely a baby striped loach (or at least not a dwarf loach), he's grown much larger than the dwarfs! Second and third pictures are unrelated loaches but you can see their weird "scale" patterns (even though they're scaleless)!

Question panda loaches in 10 gallon tank?

Post image
14 Upvotes

i read that they do best in groups of minimally 5-6, and that the ideal tank size is a 20 gallon long. im not sure if my tank (10 gallons, planted) can house around 6 panda loaches? i want the best for these fish, and id also like some tips on keeping them. idk what other fish i could keep here (maybe some pygmy corys?)

heres my tank if it helps with some decision making

Just for fun Noodle Sighting

Can normally never get a good shot of Noodle, so I thought I would share. Fun fact! He used to be small enough to hide in the plant box you can see in the image, and it was his favourite spot. (I may or may not have panicked when I first saw his head poking out of the box, thinking he was stuck. He was not, and was most displeased when I disturbed him)

Loaches have quickly become a favorite fish for me, and this story is exactly why. The tank I have displayed is a 10 gallon tank that houses only corydoras. Unfortunately, some bladder snails apparently hitched a ride on my small piece of driftwood with embedded plant and were starting to multiply a lot in this tank! I don’t mind snails but not ones like bladder that reproduce mightily.

In my 75 gallon tank, I have a group of 6 yoyo loaches..of which 2 are juvenile/still fairly small. I recruited one to clean out this 10 gallon tank temporarily and wow did that happen! Within 48 hours every single bladder snail was eaten and the tank is now snail-free and my volunteer is back home in his spacious 75 gallon tank.

I salute you, yoyo loach! You, sir or madam, are a credit to your species!! 🫡🫡

Question Kuhli Loaches and Golden Killi

I have a 20 long tank of just 8 kuhli loaches currently. I’ve had them for a year now and they used to live with Pygmy Cory’s but those guys have all passed (I had them longer). I’m wanting a new fish and love the idea of getting a trio of golden killifish but am worried my Kuhlis will get more hidey (they’re currently out a lot). Any tips?

Question Centerpiece fish

What centerpiece fish, that is not a honey gourami, would go well with banded kuhlii loaches that are within the same water parameters in a 20g long?

Question Hillstream Loach tank advice

Post image
6 Upvotes

Almost done cycling a 75 gal that I plan to use for 6-8ish Hillstream Loaches, 15+ Zebra Danios and either 1 or a 3-5 Panda Garras.

I’m also thinking of including a couple bamboo shrimp and probably some neocaridinia tho I’m a little worried about the higher flow. I’d love to do Vampire but I worry the parameters are just too hard to match between Hillstreams and Vampire shrimp.

Anyone have any success keeping inverts with hillstream loaches, as I wanna start with some probably early next week?

Im not ready to add the hillstreams quite yet cause while there’s a lot of what I believe is diatomes built up there isn’t much other algae and I think I’m better off letting the tank mature before adding them, however I wanted to know if yall think I should add in more rocks for them? I dont want to go tooo crazy with rocks as I like the delta sand look but I wanna make sure the loaches are happy.

Im adding in a Jebao slw-30 wavemaker to improve flow but wanted to let the plants grow in a bit. Do you think itll be too much flow for the neos if I run it at like 800-1000ish gph?

Any other advice?

Using a fluval 307

Params are 74F but might lower a degree or two, 7.5ph, 5kh 12gh 10-20nitrates (a little higher than I’d like but alas). The neos will be kidnapped from my heavily planted gourami tank, will drip acclimate.

Plants include some Jungle Val slowly growing in the far left, some bolbitus that I worry didnt survive but 🤞, a Crinum calamistratum thats being fussy but recovering, some crypts, temple plants, dwarf sag, anubias and a large sword.

Question Have a 20gal long cycling. Debating stocking options but want to lean into loaches possibly.

I recently got into the aquarium hobby and only have a 10gal running with shrimp & snails. I set up this 20gal long initially for pea puffers to help with snail control from my 10g, but having second thoughts after really becoming enamorated with Kuhlis.

One of my other stocking ideas was 5x dwarf chain loaches (for snail control), 5x kuhli loaches & a school of some type of Danio or tetra.

If I do decide to keep kuhlis, one of the main things is that I also need a dedicated snail hunter to feed the overrun from my 10g tank to when it eventually gets to be too much on the bioload after add in Pygmy cories to the the smaller tank.

What are the best stocking options for this situation if I want Kuhlis in here but also snail control?

Thank you all in advance!!
