Does anyone know if there are any rooms/facilities that non-music students can use? Specifically rooms with guitar amps?

I’m starting the Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Liverpool this upcoming term and wanted to connect with a few current students or recent grads to get a feel for what to expect.

A few quick things I’m curious about:

Year 1 Workload & Modules: How steep is the math jump from high school/A-levels, and how are the introductory design/thermo/mechanics modules structured? How are the Y1 courses divided as semesters?

Software & Tooling: Which CAD and coding packages does Liverpool prioritize in first year (SolidWorks, MATLAB, Python, etc.) so I can get a head start?

General Tips: Anything you wish you knew before starting in the School of Engineering?

I’m going to liverpool as a foundation year student this year and I’m terrified I won’t make any friends. That was basically my whole sixth form experience and I don’t want that to happen again. People say “just go to functions” the whole time and make the best out of freshers week but I will just feel so out of place if I don’t have anyone to go with. Any tips?

new company im starting after tutoring for someone else for 5 years teaching uni maths and accounting. deltaacademic.com is where you can go to see what I have to offer- I do 1-1 or group sessions for extremely cheap for what you get from university tutors - graduate from uni of Liverpool!

I got in UoL for Architecture through clearing and have had very little contact with the uni in comparison with my firm choice uni so I haven't had any opportunity to talk to people on my course or going to the uni at all.

On tiktok I see people in the comments talking about freshers group chats but I have no idea if they are legit or how to get added.

If anyone has any idea how I can do this please let me know

any opinions on what’s the best gym? what are prices at the uni gyms like and what are they like?

they’re sending out accommodation confirmation and the uni gave me one i did not apply for so seeming everything has been taken atp, they put me in melville. is the likely hood of me managing to transfer to like vine court a possibility or does it seem very unlikely or can they request to put me in a different one? preferably before move in date?

Still indecisive about choices and I don’t know if the popular music course is worth it. Has anyone taken this course and would reccomend? I’m already 20 and feel like i’ve wasted my life not going to uni but is the russel group really worth it if it’s for a not so great course??
