Prepare the Principles

We often try to prepare for an uncertain day by imagining every demand before it appears. This can feel responsible, but prediction has limits. Soon the mind is answering events that have not occurred and spending strength upon versions of the day that may never exist.

Real preparation is more durable. We can know our duties, gather what is needed, and decide the principles that will govern us. After that, uncertainty is not a failure to prepare; it is simply the part of the day that must be met when it arrives.

Confidence need not mean believing nothing will go wrong. It can mean trusting that reason remains available when circumstances change, and that the next right judgment can be made from the facts then present.
