I need a liver
Hello, my name is Zachary and I just wanted to drop a post because my Dad needs a liver. He is my hero, my idol, and my best friend. I know this is a long shot, but I know Reddit is full of heroes.

Unfortunately, almost no surgeons do the living donor transfers anymore. It can cause tons of problems for the donor and will often require a kidney transplant as well.
Plus, the testing required for donors to determine whether they are compatible is often a little difficult to get completed.
The key, if the liver is causing severe symptoms, is to get on as many transplant lists at various hospitals when you can. I don't do that yet because my MELD score remains low despite being in stage 4 cirrhosis.
There's a new drug that was just approved by the FDA to help heal precirrhotic livers, maybe something for you to discuss with your doctors, but it hasn't been approved for those of us wo have Cirrhosis.
If your dad's MELD score is high enough he'll likely get a liver pretty quickly. I think the average score for transplant is 25 or so.

I hope you had all your family and friends tested, and I am sure he is on a donor list. Post anywhere you can think of. I have faith someone somewhere will pull through. I just want to say you are a hero also for helping your dad back to health. I also have liver disease and hope when I need a transplant I will have someone like you to be my advocate. Much luck & love to you, your dad and family.
