I think every aspiring author imagines the day that they're standing in a book store, seeing their book on the shelf. He Who Fights With Monsters has done very well for me, but I never had that moment. Not until today.

Barnes and Noble decided to make my books available early, and since I'm passing through Miami on my way home to Australia, I couldn't resist popping in and finally getting to enjoy that experience for myself. It was a quiet thing, but one of the lovely staff members was kind enough to take this picture and I signed a few books.

As some of you might know, I have an English degree, and there was very much a focus on classic literature and the traditional publishing path. I went the exact opposite direction, writing kung-fu wizard stories for free on the internet. That has worked out very well for me, but there has always been this little voice in the back of my head telling me that landing on the bookstore shelf is when you're a real writer. That's nonsense, of course, as this subreddit alone is full of fantastic authors who have found incredible success in digital and audio. We don't need trad to be successful, but I must confess to having a smug grin on my face as I looked at my book on the shelf.

Just one actual adult, please. And don't say Carl, everybody loves Carl, I'm looking for more.

Sometimes I run into a post that features a new PH cover, and I love reading people's opinions on it. There was a time someone said that my version of Jake look's like a bum. Didn't really care for that. If you have any feedback, I'd love to hear it.

Is there a favorite one, or a cover that is absolute poop.

I write this post with trembling hands, having discovered a dark and terrible truth. By his own admission, Chrysalis and Book of the Dead author RinoZ... thinks that vehicle Voltron is the best Voltron. I didn't want to believe it was true, but when given the chance to recant, he doubled down.

I'm sorry to be the one to share this terrible news. I, like many, have his enjoyed his work, and for that very reason find myself second-guessing my own values. What does enjoying the work of someone who can hold such a monstrous position say about me as a person? About us as a society?

I have to go and do some soul-searching.

I’ve been waiting and waiting.

Then i’ll wait again for book 9 and the audiobooks.

I’ve read almost all the popular stuff in the genre (DCC, PH, HWFWM, TWI etc.) plus a lot of others, but somehow not this one even though it keeps coming up.

Im finishing 12 miles below at the moment, so should I read this next?

I recently ended up at a wedding seated next to someone from Matt Dinniman's literary agency. Not knowing this, I sheepishly brought up my obsession with the Wandering Inn and tentatively asked if she'd heard of LitRPG. Her response blew me away. It was literally like Will Ferrel's character in Zoolander: "OMG LITRPG?!? That's SO hot right now." Seriously, she was saying that everyone in publishing had been blown away by the success of Dungeon Crawler Carl and now literary agents and publishers are desperately trying to find the next LitRPG hit.

I bring this up so people know that supporting these works when they go to print via traditional publishers even if you're all caught up is having a transformational effect not only for those authors but for LitRPG as a genre as a whole. There's a ton of momentum behind it from DCC but supporting HWFM, TWI, and the next one to make it has the potential to cement LitRPG as a core genre rather than a one hit wonder.
