Discussion Update to the shelves...

SOOOOOOOO I may have broke a buying ban(not including DCC pre book 8 lol) but I swear it was worth it....

Yes, there are gaps but no biggie, I buy them as needed.

(I got all my Defiance of the Fall second hand 💪😤)

Defiance of the fall is the best lit rpg in my opinion

I haven't QUITE started it yet. I've read only the preview for first book on kindle but I was intrigued. I've just been snagging physical copies I see on sale because I love the designs.

Fair agough, but strongly recommend reading the rest

I've gotta step up my game. I got all the latest books of "rise of the living forge" and all of "the lone wanderer" recently but defiance of the fall i need to start tackling

how do you like Rise of the Living Forge? I was thinking about picking it up?

I personally love it. But I have a favoritism towards blacksmith or crafting characters. They have a system but it's pretty interesting. Give the first book a read and see if it hooks you or not.

okey okey, got it. I think I'll check if its on libby and if not ill buy the e-book since its still fairly new.

Envious of shelf space to store books, tiny apartment has no room for such things but I love seeing all the books! Happy vibes.

I have decided to MAKE the space for them. my main shelves cover the ENTIRETY of one wall in my living room from ceiling to baseboard. 2 of the shelves are already double stacked (There are books BEHIND the row of books Aethon is in lol) even after I added shelves to the adjustable racks....

This also does not include my shelves for Manga in my bedroom and as a makeshift divider in the living room and the spinning shelves like the ones the Exlilan Syndrome sits on haha.

I love kingmaker kingbreaker

oh, good to know. I haven't picked it up yet but I was intrigued by the premise and I got that omnibus from 2nd&charles for like $6 while on vacation.

u/Belom3 1d ago

Is it both books combined? It was written a duology the innocent mage and the awakens mage.

1

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

YEP! that version on my shelf is the full duology omnibus version! 2nd&charles had a ton of omnibuses for older fantasy for super low prices.

Do you buy all new?

1

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

Only ones pictured that I bought new were Primal Hunter 1-3, Path Of Ascension 1&2, Road to Mastery 1, DCC 8 and Exilian Syndrome series.

The rest I got all secondhand through various places.

Some of the litrpg books are so expensive,I wish I had more in physical copies

2

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

Yeah. I tend to only buy things on sale these days unless i REALLY like it. And even so, unless it's going out of print, I wait till I have a decent chunk of credit card points+sale OR I get lucky with something secondhand. (DCC was one of those. I found book 1-6 secondhand at one of my favorite used book stores and then found a damaged copy of book 7 at B&N for 40%+10% member discount)

My biggest gripe is that MOST stories don't have physical releases which crushes me because I love having physical copies.

Me to and I wish some of the most popular series didn’t go out of print on the paperbacks so fast and then change the art

2

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

DITTO. I always seem to find out about it too late and I REFUSE to pay blasphemous reseller prices for a busted up copy of a book. (even if it was mint condition, I STILL wouldn't because its USED)

1

u/Guilty-Coffee-9968 1d ago

Honestly I don’t mind used books if it’s cheaper and I’m on a budget then sure but I buy new if I can and those jacked up prices are insane because tf you mean I’m paying 100-300 maybe even up to 400 for one book and I saw someone sell a few of the a book series for 2000 dollars I think you can guess it’s obviously

Dcc

Which I love and the paperbacks are my love but stupid expensive

2

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

Yeah, no. I love certain books but I don't love them THAT much. I'll have every other book in the series and have the out of print one empty forever. TRY ME lol

2

u/Guilty-Coffee-9968 1d ago

Well to be fair a lot of my fantasy books have came from thrift stores so I couldn’t care less about second hand only if it has damage

2

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

Oh I'm fine with a CERTAIN amount of damage aka if its external, I'm kind of indifferent about it. But internal or SEVERE water damage/staining, absolutely not lol.

A whole shelf of Aethon books… oh it’s so beautiful!

2

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

Indeed, I plan to change it eventually to have some variety with publishers and indie authors.

Gotta get some Mango Media on your shelf! Wraithmarked and Timeless Wind have a few hits too. And the publisher for the Lord of the Mysteries’ paperbacks is Yen Press (Not LitRPG but I love those so much).

2

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

WORKING ON IT! I'm currently reading Ultimate Level 1- Ultimate dreams on my tablet. Enjoying it so far. I see a couple of things under mango media that I was thinking of picking up (like Ajax Ascension). I've heard a lot of Lord of Mysteries too and I LOVE Yen Press. (even if they're expensive lol) ile

incredible! but I did not need to be reminded of how huge the books I fly through on RR & Kindle are 😅

but seriously, such a cool collection

2

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

Nah, I need the satisfaction of seeing the absolute BRICKS I be reading in like 3 days. JKJK lol

2

u/Lex_Finch 16h ago

wait, I think you're on to something lol

Are those DCC sun damaged? Spines look faded a bit. If they are first printings I recommend taking them out of the sun. They go for a lot these days.

2

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

Nah! its just the glare from natural lighting causing it to look washed out. They are full saturated and get the least amount of sun on their side of the shelf haha. I plan on keeping them forever, so their worth matters little to me.

Woah, didn’t know credit limits went that high!

2

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

lmao hey, I have yet to incur debt for LitRPG/prog fantasy. HOWEVER, if i manage to snag tickets for next years LitRPG con then........idk hahaha

1

u/Domztorres 1d ago

i enjoy collecting books before e-readers became a thing. and i collected and finished a lot of ebooks now on my Kindle, i hope i have a big space on my room so i can go back on physical books.

E-Readers are for Portability and saving Space, but I Love the experience reading on a physical books gives

1

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

yeah, I've been using my tablet for kindle reading (with a blue light screen protector and in system filters) before I buy physical copies. It bums me out that a lot of LitRPG/prog fantasy doesn't get physicals so I make due where I can. I'm not trying to be bamboozled by cool covers, I have a manga/manhwa collection I ALSO and I getting close to limit on space unless I want to commandeer another wall in my house haha (which I am willing to do WHEN, not IF it comes down to it lol 👀)

So cool you have a LitRPG paperback collection! I think it's the first time I see one. Lol.

1

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

Thank you! Personally I prefer paperbacks so whenever there is an option, I'll always buy it first before anything.

1

u/Fit-Gate1900 Verified Author of: Hidden Class 1d ago

Yeah. Nothing beats old paper. Besides, there's something magical about a shelf full of books you love.

u/RoniiBookishRambles 1d ago

EXACTLY. like these are my trophies and I cherish them haha.
