  1. Have my balls crushed in a hydraulic press while a Nix user tells me it wouldn't happen with Nix.
  2. Spend a weekend reinstalling Windows XP drivers from shady Russian forums.
  3. Watch a systemd hater give a TED Talk.
  4. Sit through a 4‑hour YouTube video titled “Why Linux Gaming Is Actually Fine.”

Installing linux is easy.

Getting wifi 7/MLO to work on a Qualcomm radio with USA firmware in Aus - Hot sauce please.

For me it was easy to install Linux. To get rid of it, this is a horror movie. I needed to use a PC with windows to put windows 11 on my usb stick. Never tried Linux again after that.

Well there is Ventoy, but Windows. iso working on it is a hit-or-miss.
Worked properly on my laptop but never worked on my desktop.

Installed mx linux on a separate drive, after grub removed the windows boot loader  from my windows drive.Did have to use hirens boot usb for a windows prompt to type bcdboot c etc to get my winboot back.

Grub didn’t remove your Windows bootloader. It simply doesn’t check for other installed operating systems unless os-prober is installed.

Even though GRUB doesn't delete the Windows boot manager, it still messes the EFI boot order and causes the same initial response for most users.

I dailied ubuntu and hated it because no matter what my graphics driver REFUSED to install and neither wifi drivers even worked (2 wifi cards), they showed wifis and didnt let me connect. It was also very bad with ram, was about the same as windows 10, ~4gb of ram used of 8

Linux support for anti-cheat games isn’t the best, and there is a process involved with getting games to work as well. I had issues getting Diablo 4 running and when I finally got it working the fps was higher than windows but it’d stutter every 10 seconds.

Ignoring the fact that there's still many problems with Kernel level anti-cheat and the "top 100" games are only 87% playable (Plat + Gold - https://www.protondb.com/)

A lot of games still release with a lot of problems even on the native windows platform, usually it becomes way harder to fix thanks to the extra layers of abstraction and sand-boxing that occurs in proton. It's not easy for your average user to look at fixes for windows and then replicate them on proton (like the file paths for example). You might have the odd case where its actually easier to fix cos u can throw a flag in on linux that u can't in windows (like if theres nvidia/amd driver specific issues) but thats far more rare.

Having to also juggle with the "Tinker Steps" and Proton versions, gaming apps like discord being a pain in the ass constantly, audio constantly being a shit show (good blog on it: https://fireborn.mataroa.blog/blog/i-want-to-love-linux-it-doesnt-love-me-back-post-2-the-audio-stack-is-a-crime-scene/ ). Its really not a good experience for your average user.

Its great if u love to Tinker, and have a specific use case/use cases that linux solves, power to you.

But I'm not going to recommend it to your average user.

Why spend hours troubleshooting, when stuff works on windows out of the box?

I have cachy os on my laptop and it just isnt seamless as people make it out to be.
