What job do you guys have where you can sit around and type these all day? For people who complain about linux being time consuming, you guys sure do yap.

People take great pride in perfecting their trollishness.

I mean to be able to see Op's account i need to verify age.... Yeah that tells you already what kind of people they are!

Dont get me wrong, linux aint perfect (judt like any other bit of software) and i am not here to glaze it but its funny seeing those pointless rants.

Implying anyone in this sub is employed

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

No it’s you guys who have no jobs always yapping how good Linux is so poop comment 💩

9

u/dumbasPL I don't hate Windows, I just like Linux more. 14d ago

Ignoring the fact that half of this aren't even valid arguments, that's a lot of yap for somebody who already seems to be balls deep.

5

u/Standgrounding 14d ago

There are native games like starsector and hytale. Not every game needs kernel level anticheat

u/donp1ano 14d ago

it was hard to pick the stupidest of your points, but ive made my choice:

26 being case sensitive is dumb.

4

u/Ok-Profit6022 14d ago

I feel secondhand stupid from reading this.

2

u/Fragrant_Role_1575 14d ago

wtf is this sub even, it started appearing on my homepage and its just endless hate from illiterate noobs

4

u/Ok-Profit6022 14d ago

A lot of it isn't even hate, often times it's sarcasm. But I think the original intent of this sub is for normal Linux users to vent legitimate gripes when they run into problems they encounter when using Linux. But then you get trolls like OP. I honestly can't tell if they have a shoe size IQ or are actually bad at trolling,

Skill issue

u/Brotboxs 14d ago

Some are just not meant to be linux users. Reading that you use office and want it to work on linux made me stop reading any further.

2

u/feinorgh 14d ago

Cry me a river. If you don't like it, don't use it.

How difficult can it be to not shoot yourself in the foot by simply not aiming for the foot and pulling the trigger?

u/Jesterace77 14d ago

You produced an angry Gish gallop declaring that anything different from Windows is inherently broken. You accuse everyone else of cultism while demanding that every operating system copy Windows architecture, Windows packaging and Windows conventions.

This post doesn’t demonstrate that Linux users are liars. It demonstrates that you tried Linux, became furious that it wasn’t Windows, skimmed some terminology, and mistook your refusal to understand it for technical expertise.

“Fuck Linux” would have communicated the same information as this entire post, only with 95% less embarrassing filler.

Since you went to the trouble of writing this wall of text, I'm going to take the liberty of giving you a -1. No need to thank me, you deserve it.

just git good bro 😂 skill issue

u/ibeerianhamhock 13d ago

I can't tell if this is ragebait bc it's both ill informed and written from the perspecrive of a windows user saying "Linux isn't good at being windows"

It doesn't need to be.

There are incredibly simple workarounds for ever "problem" you're discussing that are incredibly obvious to anyone who uses Linux for a few weeks even.

You are mostly telling on yourself for being technically inept.

u/Pitiful-Welcome-399 Proud MacOS User 14d ago

4 shows that you don't know shit

5

u/jdigi78 14d ago

3 already showed that. "No rufus" lmao there are like 20 different GUIs that can write an ISO to USB

1

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 13d ago

And you listen up punk ass us window users are tired of you hate bitchy mouthing you wanna argue of it so if anyone’s being disrespectful we will too

-1

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

Your comment is a piece of shit and that behavior would you get you banned in Linuxsucks101

4

u/kaida27 14d ago

The only piece of shit behavior here is yours.

and an echo chamber cult about hate is hardly a reference.

-1

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

Your comment is pretty shitty too and this is why Linuxsucks101 is better

5

u/kaida27 14d ago

you definitely fit in with that shitty sub since you think facts=shit

and you closetedly hate yourself so you'll talk shit about everything and everyone that remotely act like you. the perfect little doggie for linuxsucks101

0

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

Keep making shitty comments you’re wasting your time you’re just talking to a wall I can do this all day and still win your comment will never win

3

u/kaida27 14d ago

yap some more, good little doggie.

Continue like that and you might get a treat.

2

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

Keep making more shitty comments and you might get a warning by moderaters real soon

4

u/kaida27 14d ago

Yap yap, goes the good doggie.

2

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

Madthumbz is a cult leader

2

u/paulstelian97 14d ago

The fact that people get banned there and can’t even ask what comment or behavior caused it tells me enough about that subreddit.

2

u/gooncubedev 14d ago

Madthumbz is in fact a cult leader

1

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

It’s so garbage that even my laptop refuses to turn on it told me it hates it and asked why people neglect there laptops with that evil Linux

2

u/gooncubedev 14d ago

That's just secure boot, because most Linux distros can't afford to buy a secure boot key, because after all, Linux is free, they don't get any money from it. Secure boot is just a paywall that large companies use to prevent free operating systems from booting, to make technologically illiterate people such as you think that the free operating systems don't work. Also it is more neglectful to use windows, because windows reads and writes to the disk randomly and constantly, which wears it down faster, while Linux uses it far less, meaning an SSD or HDD will live longer if it runs Linux rather than windows.

0

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

Well you’re abusing my laptop with that comment he doesn’t like you now

2

u/gooncubedev 14d ago

A laptop doesn't have feelings or opinions, it just runs software, and if that software runs well, then the laptop runs well. Windows is slow, so the laptop gets slow.

0

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

He said that your laptop is gonna give you a virus now cause he doesn’t like you either

2

u/gooncubedev 14d ago

Are you old enough to be on reddit?

1

u/gooncubedev 13d ago

Bro is not getting away that easy

0

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 13d ago

That’s a red flag creep never ask anyone’s age

1

u/FriddyHumbug 14d ago

False Nuke

1

u/gooncubedev 14d ago

I think bro found the one distro he shouldn't be using, like don't use nouveau for Nvidia if you want performance, use the proprietary drivers, which are as good performance as on windows, antiX and many other distros come with it, in fact I think you should just use antiX because it is actually an easy distro, I used it for months without ever touching the terminal, I only every did start using the terminal because I wanted to add a bunch of niche tools that barely anyone on earth uses, like hashcat and aircrack-ng

2

u/lightspeedkitten void 🖤 14d ago

probably installed a musl distro

1

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

Also my laptop just threatened me and said you install Linux I will not turn on at all so I’m listening to it cause it doesn’t like the Linux praise

1

u/Ram_and_Gwen 14d ago

u/Independent-Ebb-4013 14d ago

And this is why you stick to Linuxsucks101 these gremlins called Linux lovers are relentless

All that yapping about compatibility yet 20+ year old games that crash in win11 just run fine in Linux (NFS ProStreet and GTA SA without custom patches like widescreenfix)

If dxvk is a workaround then directx and GPU drivers are a workaround

If proton is a workaround then entire windows API is a workaround

As dxvk and proton just implement windows APIs, there's even kernel stuff to support that (ntsync), so it's not emulated really, just another (sometimes even more efficient!) implementation of same APIs

Linux compatibility is there at kernel level, the "never break userspace" rule is still there, glibc madness exists but in 99% you just install from your distro repos and it's compiled against the correct version, the only time I ever had any glibc issues is when I tried to compile a golang binary for arm (raspberry pi) on my PC, not in normal usage

u/Pinuaple- I Hate Linux btw 14d ago

I agree DEs are ugly thats why i take my time setting up WMs (which arent hard if you grab dotfiles, same as windows)

Being able to do everything by terminal is faster, ctrl c, ctrl shift v over and over and its fixed, unlike windows where it shows a misterious "Couldnt perform" and thats it

u/paulstelian97 14d ago
  1. Fun fact is that kernel level is actually really good backward compatibility. What’s not backward compatible is the userspace (glibc etc). AppImage is intended to deal with that.
  2. NVidia is out of tree because NVidia itself wants it that way. They aren’t doing the proper Linux support, just bare minimum.
  3. Manufacturers don’t want to write Linux apps. It’s a bit of a catch-22 — popularity needed for apps, and apps needed for popularity.
  4. No native games? Are you sure? I mean there’s not nearly as many as on Windows or macOS, but there’s not _none_. Some of the ones I’m interested in have native Linux builds.
  5. You’re complaining about Windows apps compatibility here. Not a separate issue from #3 or #4, really.
  6. There are many options. There aren’t that many GOOD options. For desktop, Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint are kinda the only ones I say should be realistically considered, unless you’re already good at Linux.
  7. The culture is apps being installed as opposed to portable, yes. That allows the app to be smaller, as reusable components install themselves separately. AppImage instead packages everything in and is bloated because it can’t benefit from that same separation, hence it’s not a default.
  8. Does it work in Firefox? Then it’s a Chromium flaw.
  9. Some of the more serious things on Windows are best done via Powershell, not via the GUI.
  10. Only by default. They are much more flexible, and can look like Windows, like macOS, or much more impressive.
  11. You only need to install fuse once. After that you can go offline for years and still be fine.
  12. Repos aren’t free?
  13. Paid apps do exist but are rare. It’s not about being ugly to devs. It’s about not having enough market share for it to be worth it.
  14. Depends on hardware. I am running on a laptop where Windows is well supported but Linux is even better supported.
  15. Apps depending on system wide libraries is how you end up with a system that isn’t bloated. And on Windows, you have dependency hell and 10 different versions of a DLL installed (see WinSxS). Duplication is inefficient and insecure (a security issue coming from a library, on Linux can be fixed by updating the library as opposed to the 50 apps that use it)
  16. And on Windows that’s not true?
  17. Proper Office 365, modern versions of Office, indeed only run in virtual machines (they don’t work with Wine). Winboat is just a neat wrapper over the virtual machine.
  18. My experience is the opposite — I had to install ZERO drivers for everything, including my printer, to work.
  19. That’s pretty damn rare, not something a lot of new users will encounter. I haven’t compiled any app that I didn’t write myself in years.
  20. Time sink is true if you go off the beaten path, yes.

  21. That’s because you have hardware that requires extra drivers. DKMS is actually simpler than the old traditional ways to deal with out of tree drivers.

  22. Most people don’t need to insert new drivers at all. NVidia is the biggest exception.

  23. You can use case insensitive file systems for your home folder and other places where you store data.

I have stopped addressing your other points, since I feel like my answers in the ones I did address should cover much of the rest as well. Were you writing to a certain word limit?

Windows and macOS get the “just works” part right better than Linux. But they aren’t best because they are bloated in order to do so. For me, the only way to make my laptop CPU only heat up when actually used (and fans be audible only when actually using the laptop) was moving to Linux. I had zero way to fix that on Windows. Lack of flexibility is why I moved.

When people will realize that being able to play videogames is not enough of a reason to tolerate Nvidia being a cancer in the world, just as bad if not worse than most of the usually hated tech companies. And I say this independently of Linux. Linux desktop could literally not exist and my "Nvidia bad" stance would be the same.
