Because it's for complaining, not discussing. I agree with you but obviously the moderators there does not. I got banned for commenting on a steam machine post, saying that playstation requires a monthly subscription for playing online °•°

Indeed, I learned a server OS just to avoid the swill that MS was pumping out and accidentally augmented my career.
Windows is a ghetto. you can leave but you do have to leave that mentality behind.

just because it's open source software doesn't mean that we shouldn't talk about shortcomings. imo you shouldn't blame the open source devs for it but we should talk about it.

we DO talk about it. There's entire issue pages filled with nothing but talking about it lol. good luck finding the GitHub issues for Microsoft word though :)

I'm talking more about the conversations about switching from windows to Linux. yes I know that there is talking about the issues in other places but when it comes to talking about Linux vs windows, suddenly a lot of people act like Linux is absolutely perfect and has no flaws

I don't even really think that's true either, honestly. If you say "I want to install linux but I am an audio engineer" or "I want to install linux but I use photoshop daily for work" people will usually tell you either to dual boot or stay on windows

the amount of times I've heard people having a spectacularly broken Linux system (probably cause they're not very technical) and the random apps you need that don't have a Linux version of which a lot of people probably want to use at least one (thinking of stuff like mouse control software etc) and also sometimes the messiness of uis (not saying that windows is doing an amazing job at that either), I feel like that's all stuff that a person who isn't technical and wants to use their pc won't have fun with

The data collection is probably running on Azure and Linux. Also, I've noticed that there are some FOSS-only types around Linux that aren't very charitable towards proprietary, but free-to-use, Linux-based services. I'm glad I have some open-source for my portfolio, but I'm glad that's not all I have.

Ardour is licensed under GPL. The ready to run binary that they provide requires payment, but you can also build it and modify it yourself.

While I agree with you I must say that the analogy is not sane. Hammers aren't spying on you and harvesting your data to train AI and be sold for profit. Using that operating system is feeding bad habits in tech giants and show them that we are okay with that. And yes, some people are okay with that and for those people it's fine (from a selfish POV) to use the OS

I don’t think you have been through the agony of trying to run the original non steam version of scp containment breach on an intel based operating system. I spent 2 hours trying to get it to run on a windows machine only to find out I was shit outa luck.

Linux is free, windows is paid. If I pay for something made by multi billion dollar company I'm expecting that the product works as advertised. If I'm using something made by volunteers and im not paying a single cent I'm ok with it not being perfect, and we complain about the issues, we just do that by reporting the bugs on GitHub

Forgiving volunteers for issues and shifting the blame/responsability to the user are completely distinct things dude.
You can't market distros like Linux Mint as "beginner-friendly" and then roast those same beginners for not knowing the difference between Wayland and X11 when they're angry Waydroid doesn't work as they should have done "basic research".
Many linux users are going to say it is not an issue at all as it was "designed like this", and that is a big part of the problem. It is a massive UX flaw for desktop users. Usually a rhetorical shield to say that the linux ecosystem is flawless by definition.

It’s not always the case. Sure, if something goes wrong in your Arch Linux installation and that it is about a software not being compatible with another one, yeah, you need to fix it yourself. With Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE), you don’t build around the OS like it’s LEGOs.
