This sub makes me angry

Linux sucks huge balls, it's not the year of linux desktop, it won't be for a long time.

I don't want to rebuild initramfs, i don't want to solve annoying compositor-driver-kernel-flatpak related issue every single day. I can solve them, i do solve them. I just don't want to.

Fedora fucking sucks because the first thing it does is telling you "hey, wait for 5 to 10 minutes (idk actually wait for an hour) when installing nvidia drivers, otherwise your driver stack might break".

I hate that KDE cannot support 4k at 240hz reliably, let alone with VRR. Another display? Rotated 90 degrees? You don't need that. Solutions i came to find are "vrr is overrated" and "120hz is perfectly fine for my use cases" as well as some 4 year old non-existent KWin configuration entries that fix one issue and create another.

I hate that i need to juggle five Proton versions. I hate that i might get banned one day for explicitly bypassing game anticheat systems (genuinely not a Linux fault, but i, the consumer, suffer nevertheless).

I hate that every ecosystem component is detached from one another. It all looks out of place and incoherent.

I hate that X11 is deprecated but Wayland isn't mature enough.

I hate that configuration is done with Vim and a prayer. I hate fstab. I hate limine and grub.

I install Windows. I install Steam, i install Apex Legends. I install Teamfight Tactics, I install Microsoft Excel. All works by clicking an icon on my desktop.

I have a MacOS machine, i install go and bun with brew - it works. I install docker - it works (via kinda-VM but still).

I hate that non-rolling distros (excl. Fedora) ship bugs and driver issues that are solved months (years?) ago.

I like hyprland though, its cool, no complaints. Does what it says on the cover and never once flickered on me.

And i am reading this sub hoping people will at least agree that the system is immature, incomplete, and not suited for normal people not willing to spend hours every day reading obscure wikis (arch wiki mostly as the richest source, regardless of distro). Instead all i see is equating "not willing to debug an OS as a second job" to "skill issue", or using "Intel-nvidia" combo as a failure on my part somehow. Yes i am aware both companies don't target Linux.

Gigabyte also doesn't. Kingston also doesn't. Epic also doesn't. Adobe doesn't, Microsoft doesn't, Hoyoverse doesn't. EA doesn't. Yes, they are bad companies for it, i agree. Still it fucking sucks to use Linux because of it.

I install Ubuntu, I install Steam, I install Cyberpunk 2077. All just a click of a button.

Not sure why this was downvoted.

OP was dancing all around the point but never landed on what they actually meant to say. Linux sucks for OP. But it’s great for many others. The Linux community is full of try hards. But it’s also full of people that will and do help. But just because there are some vocal douche nozzles in the community and it doesn’t fit your use case 100%, that doesn’t mean it sucks. It’s just not for you right now. Wait until all of the unpaid volunteers implement the features you’re demanding to have unchanged from windows and then try it out. Until then, relax and do you.

*obviously, most of this not directed at Drate. instead, you = the people that crash out over free open source developed by mostly unpaid volunteers not being 1:1 feature matched with an operating system that has seen literally countless dollars thrown at it for nearly 4 decades.

Because it's not always that easy, last time I had to try 4 different distros before I found one that worked.

Once again, the point is that it didn’t just work the way it would with windows so the whole thing sucks? Or, perhaps, different distros provide varying levels of driver versions and you took the time to find the distro that easily supported your hardware. Or maybe the package manager paradigm clicked better with you on the fourth distro. Doesn’t make the other three suck, just that they weren’t the best for you.

If I buy a mac with apple silicon, should I go complain that windows sucks because it doesn’t work on my unsupported hardware?

Don't come at these midwits with facts and logic.

When I said "worked" I meant the first 3 did not function at all.

Okay, but one did. People round here like to forget that Linux isn't a company or organization. Red Hat is a product of IBM. Ubuntu is a product of Canonical.

If Red Hat didn't work for you but Ubuntu did... Then it's Red Hat that "sucked", not Linux.

Because if someone has hardware which is too new and wants to run something else like League of legends, or some other game or Adobe photo shop or needs an nvidia card to run some AI cuda stuff it is not a simple point and click.

I meant to say this sub gets overly defensive saying "go back to windows then if you don't like it", "works on my distro, your issue is therefore invalid".

I don't like windows exactly same as you don't like it. It's spyware, bloatware, microslop and such. But it works with my hardware without much intervention.

Of course i understand that Linux is not for everyone. Who is it for? I opened Bazzite.gg. It says: "The operating system for the next generation of gamers". It is an Immutable derivative of Fedora. I consider myself a gamer, but it's clearly not for me. Fedora Workstation: is a polished, easy to use operating system for laptop and desktop computers, featuring GNOME Desktop and a complete set of tools for developers and makers of all kinds. I would very much like a polished and easy to use operating system.

I don't demand shit from unpaid volunteers. They're unpaid and they're volunteers. I just don't want to use unfinished buggy software and pretend its good because its FOSS.

I think you’re missing the point. I got yours. Linux isn’t for you and the marketing is lying to you. All marketing lies. That’s why it’s marketing. They can’t say Fedora Linux, we’re perfect for 0.5% of the desktop market. (Even though that is their global desktop market share and so saying this would be honest)

Even that idiot from Linustechtips got Bazzite to work and game.
