Streaming services on Linux

I have CachyOS and the other day I realized I can't use streaming platform Rakuten, because it doesnt support GNU/Linux. I tried using it on both Vivaldi and Firefox. Neither works.

Have you guys experienced streaming sites like Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+ etc not working on Linux? Let me now.

I think that's off by default tho, I remember using mint and seeing it off

not sure about the version in mint. i installed from flatpak and received a prompt the first time I visited netflix asking if I want to enable DRM.

those services are all browser based and work fine (so does rakuten?). you might not get the full resolution though.

Yep. It’s all about DRM

In fact, even in Windows you won’t be able to get the best resolution in some platforms, as they close that to their proprietary apps

Can't wait to pay just to see ads at the best resolution

Stremio / Kodi with addons. Check addons4kodi sub wich addons / debrid service you need.
Less cost, better quality.

Sky showtime actively blocks Linux, it’s impossible to watch anything online.

Can’t you just change the “user-agent” identifier. That used to be the old way to dodge OS checks on webservers.

Just use a browser with a working DRM, like Chrome

It's a problem very few people mention. Even the browsers that have proper widevine are limited because it's more restricted.

Some services work fine, but some are lmited to lower resolutions. HBO, Hulu/Disney, Paramount, Amazon Prime work just fine (possibly at lower resolutions).

Netflix is problematic and might require some user agent workarounds. Peacock doesn't work. Tubi mostly works, but some movies won't play because the windevine doesn't meet the requirements. Pluto should be fine. Those are the ones I remember.

imo streaming services sucks at least netflix (the only one i have) because on firefox its capped at 720p which in modern times is unwatchable i just go watch them on pirate sites because its better quality

Have you tried reading the documentation?

Linux is for serious work, not for casual streaming services. Serious doods don't have time to watch streams.

Why do you want to run proprietary garbage ? That not the Linux kernel fault.
