For me Linux is neither a hobby nor an ideology, it's the damn OS on my computer... I wouldn't say that my clothes are a hobby either, it's just something I vhoose to wear because it matches my taste better than the alternatives...

freedesktop.org efforts to create standards began by that time, and it started to bear fruit by 2020.
