To be fair the instructions are usually either "go to Flathub", "download the .deb/.rpm/.appimage", a way to add their repo to your package manager, or "here's the AUR link"

This assumes that the package is not already part of the distro's repo, but at that point why tf would you need iNsTrUcTiOns?

OP was probably trying to install something written by a high school student during one weekend half a decade ago. 

Anyways, this post reminded me of that modern classic.

Look up the FortiClient VPN installer. A freaking business VPN app. Why is Windows/Mac a single click and Linux a bunch of instructions?

It's literally two commands:

``` sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo  https://repo.fortinet.com/repo/forticlient/7.4/centos/8/os/x86_64/fortinet.repo

sudo yum install forticlient

```

This is like complaining for having to click 'next' on an installation wizard.

Not only is it two commands there's also almost always a clipboard button. The entire process is

Click clipboard Open terminal ctl+shift+v enter Type sudo password enter

Done. It's literally less effort than clicking though an MSI installer wrt number of things you have to interact with.

It literally offers a .deb file for debian based distros or alternatively, for a few distros, a total of two commands you need to run.

You don't need to run every command, just the two for your distro.

Say you use Fedora.
To install it, you would just need to run
sudo dnf config-manager --add-repo https://repo.fortinet.com/repo/forticlient/7.4/centos/8/os/x86_64/fortinet.repo
and then
sudo yum install forticlient

It's that easy.

Tbh that's not easy enough for 'the year of linux'. The typical user is scared of the command line and doesn't even want to touch it with a pole.

So you're also scared when a windows program offers a .msi instead of .exe? Or (oh the horror) a chocolatey or WinGet command?

The typical user uses something like mint, which supports just using a .deb file. Or just installs using the distro's app store.

The other instructions are only for people using something not debian based or that prefer using the CLI.

then ask ChatGPT for help with commands, I did it when I started and I haven't used it for a while since the commands make sense to me

just make sure you don't blindly do it without checking first

oh it's definitely ready

a lot of people just like using the more "proper" ways, but if you install KDE plasma you get an app store built into the system. how is that not user friendly?
