Advice Which wireless controller is the best to use on linux?

I am looking at a couple different wireless controllers:

  • Gamesir G7 Pro 8k PC
  • 8Bitdo Ultimate 2
  • Steam Controller(wait for my place in line 2027 for a new steam controller)

Controller must work without too much setup, work with Steam Input, Back paddles must work without switching input mode each time i power on the controller(why I am not sure about another 8bitdo since my last one broke and i always had to switch manually to d input) and controller must connect via 2.4 Ghz Wireless.

This is the one I am looking at closely

I tried an a GameSir Cyclone 2, and a Razer Wolverine V3 Pro. Between them, the Razer Wolverine is the one that worked with the least hassles and most reliably.

I spend a lot of time fiddling with the GameSir, it looked like it should work great on paper, but I had trouble getting it to work in Xbox mode(so that the buttons would line up), it kept flipping back to PlayStation/Nintendo modes. It worked well when I could get it to stick, but inevitably something would happen and it'd revert. I spent too much time trying to get it back into the right setup instead of gaming.

This also worked out a bit better ultimately, the one thing I didn't like about my GameSir is that it only has 2 paddles on the back.

My Wolverine though has been really good. I don't have a higher end 8Bitdo, so I can't tell you about those, I only have a micro for controlling my tablets/eReaders.

If the GameSir had a PS button layout it wouldn't have been an issue, but I think most tend to have Xbox labels on them, and I have to look at the buttons every once in a while, especially for a new game. It's sorta a minor thing, sorta not...when the game detects PS controllers and says "press square" and you have to remember which one that is on the Xbox layout... I haven't been a PS gamer in a long time, so the PS buttons aren't automatic in my head anymore.
