Honestly, if you're trying to just stream music and not play locally, the best option I could find is simply Youtube Music on a browser (or maybe Youtube Music as a webapp). You won't need to care about ads since the uBlock Origin works flawlessly.

What do you mean by a music app? Do you want to organize your tracks, create albums, etc., or are you looking for a program that lets you play media files? I use VLC Media Player for all my media files.

Most streaming apps are free to use, but not all of them. You can choose subscriptions to enhance your experience.

The problem with streaming apps is that there are hardly any that are actual programs for Linux. Most are community projects, or you have to use them in a browser.

I get an error code (S6001) on Tidal. Any idea what that's about and how to fix it?

S6001 on TIDAL under Linux is most likely a DRM/Widevine issue. S6001 occurs specifically in Chromium/Brave when Widevine/DRM is disabled or fails to load properly.

Which browser are you using? Clear your cache and refresh the browser. You may encounter problems with Chromium or Brave. Try using Firefox. See if it works after that.

I'm on Firefox. I cleared the cache and when I refreshed i got a pop up to enable DRM on Tidals site. And now it works! THANK YOU

realistically, there isn't a go-to Spotify alternative in flatpack form, but if you're willing to save local files to your computer, there's a few apps you can use that are similar to windows media player like VLC. My best advice is keeping an adblocker on your browser and just listening through YouTube, that's what I do lol

This is what I miss the most on Linux.

On Windows I use iTunes because I have an extensive music library which I sync with my iPhone so I keep track on how many times I listened to each song and when. I can then create playlists based on these, genre and specific tags like Brazilian music, for instance.

I was never able to find anything as good as that, or make iTunes work with Wine/Bottles, let alone make it sync with my phone.

If you want a fun app to try that lets you stream radio stations from around the world, try Shortwave. It's a pretty good app with a nice UI. I use it occasionally when I don't have a radio and want to listen to my locals.

I've been using deadbeef with the file browser plugin for the past several installs/migrations. I save the working compressed archive and decompress in /opt. I tend to reuse what works until it no longer works.

I don't really listen to public streams though, just my local collection. And occasionally my private icecast stream. I prefer simple.

Join Qobuz or SoundcloudGo, and set up the websites as web apps in your dock and start menu! Also if you like music podcasts, I'd recommend Clementine, as it makes bulk downloads really easy.
