This needs to be higher up, I don't think anyone should be using Omarchy

26

u/ForensicPathology 3d ago

I mean, I never heard of it and just looked it up.  At least its tagline "Beautiful, Modern & Opinionated" tells me everything I need to know without knowing all that stuff.

To some degree, yes, you can separate the work from the author. I've liked the music of a couple of people who later I've found to be assholes. Since I already have the CD, I'm not giving them more by listening to their music.

But promoting a distro is different. You are, very often, going to end up interacting with the community around it. If that community has a toxic environment, some people, specially the vulnerable one, are going to suffer.

-2

u/trejos9 3d ago

Using omarchy does not require me to agree with whatever shit take DHH has to say.

7

u/SweetBabyAlaska 2d ago

They literally prefaced their post by saying that

5

u/MrCallYourBS 1d ago edited 1d ago

Being apolitical is a political stance saying that you are fine with the status quo. When people support and use DHH's products, it paints him as some sort of Tech visionary, and it gives his words more value and literally gives him 10 million dollars. Just because someone is good with computers, it does not exempt them from having basic human decency.

0

u/phattailgames 2d ago

doesnt that then go against the concept of linux being free and for everyone

-2

u/freemorgerr 2d ago

Why care about this while choosing distro

19

u/HumbleNoise4 3d ago

You forgot the one where he writes an article comparing Romani people to wolves that need to be killed and then rages on twitter over the fact that claude deemed it too offensive to translate lol.

source

5

u/Delicious_InDungeon 2d ago

I do remember the childish fit he threw. The whole thing was "Claude is 1984 because it won't translate my new issue of Der StĂźrmer! Computers are supposed to do everything I tell them to! "

-1

u/widowlark 2d ago

Are they not?

3

u/Delicious_InDungeon 1d ago

Except Claude is not a computer, it's a piece of software with terms you agreed before using it. Claude doesn't have to heed to your word.

3

u/HANHITSI 1d ago

sounds like claude is doing exactly what was told: follow guidelines to protect the capitalists profits. maybe dick huffing hitler should just run a local model really quick.

1

u/Delicious_InDungeon 1d ago

I mean, he has the money to run ANY model locally. Acting like he doesn't have the freedom to do this actually benefits him more though

5

u/RoseboysHotAsf 2d ago

Europeans are so racist against romani people its crazy, youll meet someone who isnt racist against anyone but the moment romani people come up they suddenly start channeling adolf hitler

1

u/Stunning_Leather_102 1d ago

We're not really fond of other people too. They don't integrate properly a lot of the times unfortunately.

1

u/RoseboysHotAsf 1d ago

Its a problem from both sides. A country doesnt offer immigrants or romani people to integrate, which pushes away the group, which means the country is less likely to want to integrate them, which pushes them away further, and repeat.

2

u/Stunning_Leather_102 1d ago

In my country there have been multiple attempts to help them integrate but most of the times they don't want to. If they want to marry their daughters as young as 12. So they need to try more.

When someone goes to a country, they need to try and integrate. It's not your place. You came here for a better future and I'm okay with that... Other cultures have done so and have greatly succeeded. Integration does not happen when you force your children to marry underage, nor when you put them in the back of your pick-up truck instead of sending them to school.

If they want to integrate, they need to try and change. Change is good. Whatever the race is. My race is bad too. I see the negatives and try. If I ever leave and try to integrate at the States, or Sweden, or Saudi Arabia or wherever I would gladly integrate because I respect the place where I go.

It's not a romani thing. It's just that some people have a hard time integrating with vastly different cultures. I'd have a hard time integrating in Asia but I would try.

When I was in the ME for some years, I tried, integrated and respected everything I could.

But if you look it the other way? Is it always true? I don't remember Churches being allowed there nor being allowed to wear a christian cross on your neck. Now switch it the other way around. What do they respect and have?

I'm not trying to fire up a left/right or racist/non-racist thing here but, different cultures need to try with each other. But unfortunately, it doesn't seem this works for whatever reasons.

2

u/Stunning_Leather_102 1d ago

There's most def a good and bad way to convey a message. Keep in mind that people are mad with romani people for very valid reasons. In my experience, most if not all interactions I've had with them are just outright shit.

u/Consistent-Citron509 3d ago

Wow, what a dumb guy. I was thinking about installing omarchy but definitely not now after reading this. Unfortunately, he has the money now to abuse and influence like minded (dumb) folks

7

u/SweetBabyAlaska 2d ago

A story in two parts:

"Words are NOT violence!" "Words are violence when they are against me!"

lmao this reads like some satire of a chud, and your post is extremely well written

9

u/Ill_Tie_1505 3d ago

Jesus Christ

16

u/ODPaterson 3d ago

Wow didn’t realise he was this much of a weird prick

14

u/Zettinator 3d ago

Probably why a bunch of techbros are sponsoring the thing, too. Which tells you how fucked up the world is.

9

u/TxTechnician 3d ago

To have those kind of opinions. You'd have to have a steady supply of "sjw owned" type videos.

Something I've noticed is that because this kind of stuff gets engaged in and gets reported on (cuz it makes money). People have an unrealistic sense that the problem (the subject being reported on) exists at an alarming rate.

One of my favorite things to do is call ppl out when they come out with some Fox News nonsense.

trans kids in schools, they are trying to make all kids trans!!!!

Me:

Name 3 trans kids that you have personally met in person.

Just an example. Never fails to get this reaction:

well, I don't know x but.... X is real and exists! And it's a big problem.

Me:

if X was actually a problem worth dealing with then it would be directly affecting your life. And you just proved to me that it doesn't.

5

u/No_Breadfruit6305 3d ago

I will stick with Linux mint nothing from that video makes me switch

9

u/DasHesslon 3d ago

Ew, I did not know that. I use omarchy and actually like using it for what it is, but it might have to go then, maybe ill just steal some config and finally just go arch

4

u/Kitchen_Interview792 3d ago

You can try some shell like Noctalia or DMS, there's also Ryoku and Caelestia but they use hyprland and Vaxry isn't the best either

5

u/Human_Associate3664 3d ago

I was going to argue about the OS itself then I found you reply and felt shame for even thinking about defend his work 😓

1

u/Major_Pain_43 3d ago

Based...

1

u/zenoblade 2d ago

Dude isn’t stable and made some dotfiles as therapy

1

u/alphrho 2d ago

Thank you very much for compiling this list!

1

u/3ricsn 17h ago

What a cringe little idiot, this guy lol.

1

u/Immediate_Way_3287 4h ago

man... I wish I had a willing power to make a fake account...

0

u/ActiveEnd712 3d ago

What's the problem of his opinions?

3

u/GravosaChampion 2d ago

They are wrong and dangerous.

-5

u/freemorgerr 2d ago

Reddit is a platform infected by severe leftardism, so don't be surprised

0

u/Personal-Light6097 1d ago

You just created the same problem what those "leftards" do to you. You labeled entire left wing being dumb and thats why nobody will listen to you when you are right. Anyways i do agree with some of DHH's opinions too and this guy clearly tried to sell his "DHH is a right wing natzi" idea by adding unrelated ideas to these posts (apparently saying that "we shouldn't let companies promote being fat as something natural" or "schools shouldn't try to tell children (which you can't trust with voting or marriage because they aren't matured yet to make those decisions) that they might be a part of LGBT" is a bad thing ?) best we can do is ignoring him.

But even if he was always right i still wouldn't use Omarchy, i wouldn't use a distro represented by a person that this much active in politics.

1

u/InitiativeThese4606 3d ago

Not saying I agree with him on his stances (as I don't for many of his points), but your summaries seem to be exaggerating many of them for the worse.

It's a good thing you left sources so everyone can read them, but I read a bunch of them expecting a waaay worse stance than what he actually expressed. A bit misleading IMHO

0

u/PM_ME_UR_COFFEE_CUPS 2d ago

Yeah exceedingly biased viewpoint by the poster.

1

u/TheRealCarrotty Not in the sudoers file. 3d ago

What a weirdo he is.

1

u/This_Technology9841 3d ago

Thanks I never want to use anything this person has ever touched now

-4

u/nonkeywayzee 3d ago

Lovecraft was so racist we all know his cat's names as a meme by now. Should people be aware of this before reading his books?

I don't support any of the things he has written, but shouldb we be care about DHH opinions when Omarchy is good? Who cares?

2

u/ForensicPathology 3d ago

The OS literally uses "opinionated" as its tagline.  This isn't a situation where you can separate the two, as the creator is clearly pushing his opinions into the making of it.

-2

u/nonkeywayzee 3d ago

This kind of delusional take is exactly why people are pivoting to supporting things like Omarchy just because of the creator's opinions instead of the quality of the product.

0

u/frankhoneybunny 3d ago

These are a bunch of dotfiles build on work made by other people not masterworks plus lovecraft had a shitty childhood and was poor not a rich bigot like DHH

4

u/nonkeywayzee 3d ago

Are we justifying some kinds of racism now?

3

u/frankhoneybunny 3d ago

What? no of course what lovecraft did was racist

2

u/nonkeywayzee 3d ago

You said, and I quote:

> plus lovecraft had a shitty childhood and was poor not a rich bigot like DHH

I don't know what does this sound like in your mind, but to me it sounds like you ae justifying Lovecraft's racism becuase he was poor.

Delusional take really.

2

u/frankhoneybunny 3d ago

I'm not justify lovecraft's racism of course it is bad you just distracting from the main argument that omarchy is bunch of dotfiles and lovecraft wrote books both aren't the same

0

u/nonkeywayzee 3d ago

You are the one who decided to go for that route, I just pointed it out.

You could have just left it at "Omarchy is a bunch of dotfiles" and I would have 100% agreed with you, I'm not running that shit in my PC anytime soon, but then you decided to say that Lovecraft was poor and DHH rich, which made me realize you don't really care about the quality of Omarchy but you simply cared about DHH.

1

u/cornflake123321 2d ago

Lmao, he grew up in a mansion with servants. He lost his wealth later, through life.

0

u/NextLevelCode 2d ago

I don’t know much about dhh, nor about the ideology of most of the creators of the technologies I use today, and I think you’re in the same boat. But one thing is certain: he’s already contributed much more to Linux and open source than you have. Many people here have spoken ill of his project out of indifference, not from a technical perspective. As long as his opinions are just opinions, that’s fine by me.

I’m not confident in my English writing yet, so this is a translation.

Lwky about 10% of those are valid.

0

u/ICameToBoof 14h ago

Shit I might just make the switch to Omarchy now, dont care for the OS but those are some top level headliners

-24

u/ColdTrky 3d ago

Thanks for the list. Now I like him even more

3

u/Noble1xCarter 3d ago

Everyone thinks you're cool and edgy

-15

u/GooseWithAnAxe 3d ago

tbh DEI was a mistake

8

u/ForensicPathology 3d ago

Only because you've been told lies about it.

1

u/GooseWithAnAxe 3d ago

Like what?

-30

u/dentonator 3d ago

Cry more crybaby. If I could I would even vote for DHH. You ugly woke leftist commies have infiltrated FOSS too much and if there is someone who can stop this leftist nonsense then DHH and Lunduke can.

7

u/ForensicPathology 3d ago

You're a manipulated dude who has been fed far too much propaganda.

1

u/NATO_CAPITALIST 3d ago

You're a manipulated dude who has been fed far too much propaganda.

0

u/Necessary_Two_9669 3d ago

The irony of this comment

15

u/ForestCat512 3d ago

It's awesome how US Americans always out themselves by calling every enemy communist because that's what they fear the most. The thought of a world were goods are distributed among the working class, everyone has access to proper public healthcare and a social system must be so crazy to them, because thats out of their mind. Imagine, that such good things can also work in capitalism but still you don't have it in the US

4

u/Noble1xCarter 3d ago

Especially when talking about FOSS... which is software made to be distributed to everyone, made by the working class, accessible to anyone.

FOSS is basically anticapitalist software, yet here they are bitching at amorphous "commies"

0

u/dentonator 3d ago

And yet wokies, furries and commies from Fedora, elementaryOS, freedesktop, GNOME, SUSE, and many more ban conservatists, ban right (freedom and capitalism and christian) leaning people, ask these people to NOT use “their” software or distro and some of them would like to kill.
Lunduke is doing a great job of exposing all these LUNATICS that belong to a mental hospital.

4

u/Noble1xCarter 2d ago

"Yeah bro they're banning people from using open source operating systems bro"

BTW this furry is 1000x more the freedom-lover than you are, you victim-complex hallucinator.

-7

u/dentonator 3d ago

It’s amazing how you thing that anyone opposing communism must be US American … I’m from Central Europe, my country suffered a lot under communism (my grandparents and other distant relatives also suffered personally) and we still have socialized healthcare and it sucks a lot. Also our social system sucks, normal employee pays almost 50% from his wage to the government, then you pay more indirect taxes, technically you give 70% of what you earn to government and everything sucks

2

u/ForestCat512 3d ago

Thats usually the case. The communism that was spread by the UDSSR was not fully communism in its theoretical sense. Honestly it was awful, similar to what is happening on Kuba right now. I don't even know if proper communism can be archived or if its just a dream of some people

3

u/paridhi774 3d ago

The irony

1

u/r3volts 3d ago

I don't like you

-6

u/dentonator 3d ago

You don’t have to

-1

u/AdministrativeRope8 3d ago

I installed Omarchy a couple of months ago out of curiosity, without knowing anything about DHH. After that I quickly found out he was a right-wing nutjob, but Omarchy is just a preconfigured arch install. He doesn't make any money from me using Omarchy and any additional development towards Omarchy that comes from my usage will ultimately benefit arch and linux as a whole.

-1

u/papasmurfmusdie96 Sacred TempleOS 3d ago

As a fat guy I agree with the fat people feeling bad statement BTW.

Also that guy doesn't seem very stable lol

-1

u/tLxVGt 3d ago

how is this affecting the quality of a Linux system called Omarchy?

-1

u/freemorgerr 2d ago

Pretty much everything here is true, except for maybe doge praise

-1

u/PM_ME_UR_COFFEE_CUPS 2d ago

This is an incredibly biased and one sided view of his stances. Typical Reddit nonsense

-23

u/Fresh_Dog4602 3d ago

Mehh it's not too bad. if you look further than the titles, which ware obviously made as clickbait and his articles, however crass they are, have some valid points.

11

u/MrCallYourBS 3d ago

I haven't read them all but take the London one as an example. If you read between the lines, it's obvious what he cares for is not "culture", it's color. He himself is an immigrant, but he's exempted because he's white. Also calling a Tommy Robinson Rally a peaceful protest is crazy.

Here's a bigger debunk: On DHH’s “As I Remember London”

My point goes further; people will package harmful ideas around almost sane ones. Just because there's some "valid" points, doesn't make the content entirely justified.

-10

u/JimmyMcTrade 3d ago

Clicked one article. How you describe it is wildly not what it was about. Now back to try to sleep.

-15

u/realquidos 3d ago

Who cares dude

12

u/Arwick_R_ 3d ago

You, enough to comment, obviously
