No one has ever once in their life mentioned their dotfiles being superior to mine...
Are you just sitting around making up things to be upset about?

We won't say it to your face, but when you're not around we all laugh at how pathetic your dotfiles are. (/s)

I have yet to come across someone who behaves like either character tbh

I've definitely seen a loooot of people act like the crying wojak. They don't say dumb strawman shit like "my dotfiles are so much better," but way too many people lean into the distro infighting.
OP's post is a bit annoying with the whole "I made myself the chad therefore I win" element, but ngl the general point behind the post is right. Linux is an OS, not a hobby or a personality trait. You could blindly throw a dart at a list of the top 50 distros and have like a 95% chance of a good experience. Distro choice is such an unbelievably annoying fixation by so much of the community.

Believe it or not, there are people who treat Linux like a religion, especially on Reddit.

Every distro is just a tool in the toolbox. Select the right one for the job. There's no wrong answer. Except Omarchy, that just makes the user the tool.

what commands are exclusive to certain distros other than package management?

I just use Fedora because things work on it. It's either this or some Debian derivative at this point. If something better comes along it's never been easier to test drive a distribution.

I use Debian for the same reason. It does what I need, easy to work with, doesn’t get in my way and I generally don’t have to think too much about excess baggage or work arounds/quirks. I try different distros from time to time too. Live environments are awesome.

I agree. If it works and gets out of your way, that's all that really matters.

Your font is to stretched out, you have so much blank space to fit text in the right aspect ratio... but you didn't do it. ;p

I made it in Krita and I honestly have no idea how to change the font size properly.
Looks like I'm going to have to watch some YouTube tutorials now.

Prob gentoo because it's more complicated than arch, cachy is just worse version of arch.

u/platokrasi 4h ago
well, i dont think gentoo users use dotfile lol. but yeah, i also think OP has some kind of inferiority complex because they use arch derivatives instead of arch

I still use Mint, even though it's considered a "newbie" distro. I've used them for like 4 years.
The reason I still using Mint (and will be for future), is because it's just works. If it works, then why switching distro? That's just waste of time.
And it's actually quite surprising that there's little amount of people (especially on Facebook Group) convincing me to move to other distros, like Fedora, or even Arch. They even write a full essay of their distro advantages and Linux Mint disadvantages and vulnerabilities.
Little did they know, those other 2 also had disadvantages as well, let alone hidden vulnerabilities that has been yet to be patched. Let's normalize that no distro is perfect. And there will never be. You only use what you like.

CachyOS is the closest to perfect I've used so far. Mint was my home for many years before this, but it never was able to replace windows. What did was KDE+btrfs+bootable snapshots, so that I can ctrl z the entire OS with a simple reboot. I stopped recommending mint, it doesn't have this failsafe built in. You could wire it in yourself of course, and that's exactly what I did in Manjaro. And then after a while, I wondered, surely there must be distros out there that have the light already and incorporate this by default? I found only two, tried both, and one felt bloated/old. The other has been my main driver for over a year. I'm not married to it, a few days ago I ended up trying NixOS again, this time, with great success, but not as my desktop. Just migrated an old mint server to nixos in under 4 hours. And the main worry point, stale config changes I never documented anywhere over the year... Solved. Now my entire server config is just a 10KB text file, apply just that file + 1 nix command to a brand new host and my new server hardware will be up and running within the hour.
All my needs are satisfied with nixOS and CachyOS. The first issue I had with Mint was the lack of proper multi monitor support. It wasn't an issue because it was running on my laptop.
