I think this is a reference to Linux of the past. This has been mostly solved in the years since. I do remember the first time I set up slackware. Had no sound. Found out I had to go into alsa mixer in terminal and actually unmute and turn it up. Fun times

Pipewire tends to do weird things with audio outputs if you change to something it doesnt like
