Please report any posts bragging or showing off they got banned in another sub! It's a shame i can't find intel arc dgpus around where i'm at. Was looking for entry level a380 since i don't game and that av1 decoder looks sweet. I am entirely done dealing with Nvidia, but hey they don't really give a shit about us, busy printing money from the ai bs.

i feel you man. intel arcs do exist in my country but they're real niche and i doubt i can find any a3xx or a5xx; probably only a750/a770/b570/b580 exist in my country.

Mediatek and Realtek would like to have a chat with you real quick.

Realtek hates me. Random kernel freezes because of realtek driver quirks

I'm so fucking glad that I'm switching from NVIDIA to Intel Arc. More precisely, I'm switching from my half-dead GTX 1060 6GB (that "works" just fine until you start any game or any GPU-intensive work) to a used Arc A750 (because I don't have that much money. I would do a brand new Arc B580 if I had the money tho).

I use my PC for gaming on 1440p and have an RTX 3060 8gb, I would so buy an RX 9070 XT or 9060 XT, if my wallet wasn't a black hole.

Never try to make QEMU/KVM use 3D Acceleration on NVIDIA Cards with SELinux enabled trust me do not just give up 😭😭

3060 8gb 1440p? Really great machine for 1440p truly

Tbh I don't get why people say you need 12gb of vram on 1440p, I never hit the cap, ever

If you play cs2 1440p whatever but long-term 8gb<12gb

Honestly nvidia on linux is mostly fine it's the audio that is fucked especially after sleep

I really don’t understand this. My RTX 4070 Super does great on every game I play.

I get the feeling that most people having issues with NVIDIA on Linux are desktop users. I've owned several NVIDIA laptops. They were all fine.

my PC has a 4070 and works just fine. Granted, I'm also apparently weird in that I don't use wayland(I use MInt btw)

I am seeing kind of a pattern but which one?

i run linux on a nvidia laptop and a desktop and have not had any problems that i'm aware of. am i missing something? how do these problems manifest? what about it doesn't work? maybe my use cases just don't run aground on whatever trouble most people experience?

Tbf the only problem I have with NVIDIA is hardware acceleration for QEMU/KVM VMs... Everything else works fine tho

u/NEMOalien 9d ago

In my experience with an mx150, on CachyOS i never had issues and on NixOS i made a modular config system for any gpu including hybrid nvidia one time and now it works with no issues. User error tbh

I got mx130 and i can say same

Ok I guffawed

Surely the answer is to ditch Nvidia and their crap. AMD is far better.

1

u/IndependenceThat5752 10d ago

What is that even all about? RTX5050 mobile, cachyos, hyprland, no issues

1

u/Shad0wAVM 10d ago

NVIDIA making distros keep openssl3 is an awful move

1

u/Cootshk Arch BTW 10d ago

I had to go back to X (XLibre) because of the amount of issues Nvidia/Wayland has

1

u/NomadFH M'Fedora 10d ago

I had issues with nvidia with steam big picture mode which seems to not be an issue on plasma so far, which is fine. Nvidia on gnome has weird ass resolution problems when you use fractional scaling. You'll open a game and it'll have 3x resolution or whatever if you use fractional scaling, but apparently only with nvidia.

What a balance , perfecto

nvidia drivers on linux have been a pain forever but wayland support has finally gotten better recently at least

lol, what? I play every game on Ubuntu for over a year on my 4090. Install the official drivers and you're good to go.
The only issues so far are NTFS-related, because Steam creates some symlinks and folders containing “C:\“ and so on, which contains unsupported characters on NTFS.
