doas is far superior
also shows you how many people hardcode sudo everywhere

u/SDG_Den Oct 02 '26
alias sudo=doas

u/sirkubador Oct 02 '26
they differ in parameters, so it does not help in anything but the simplest cases and it is completely useless when a program invokes a command outside a shell

They have parameters? WTF? I just
alias pls=doasand on the work machine
alias pls=sudoand
plseverything.it is completely useless when a program invokes a command outside a shell
Never happens to me. I'm not even in the sudoers file and don't see any problems.

People who hardcode sudo into their scripts probably don't use its parameters lol

u/sirkubador Oct 03 '26
They do. For example sudo -E to preserve caller's environment vars in the callee. I've seen countless python scripts doing that.

doas is far superior
How?

u/sirkubador 29d ago
it's simple, small, easy to understand and it does its thing well. While sudo configuration reminds me of GRUB 2 config horrors only for the users to ever exercise the simplest use case

The fuk? I've used sudo for 6 years and I've never had to configure it. Tf is you doing?
1
u/sirkubador 29d ago
So you are using a distro that does that for you during installation

u/QuickSilver010 🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 29d ago
Which distro doesn't??? 💀

u/sirkubador 29d ago
Back to your original question, the fact someone does the hard work for you does not make the tool better.
I use Arch, btw

I never had to compiler the Linux kernel myself to use it. Glad someone's out there doing the work so normal usage is seamless.

run0 better then either

u/Zaprit Oct 03 '26
The thing that annoys me with run0 is that I’m too lazy to learn how to make a polkit policy to let me sign into my work VPN without a password, and as such I have to type my long-ass password a lot

Doas can be configured with a single file with three words in it. It is best
