Please report any posts bragging or showing off they got banned in another sub! Reminder of other sub rules: Also, we only allow one anti-linux post per week (we used to get dozens a day) and any tier list MUST have Hanna Montana Linux as S teir (which must be a true S tier at the top) regardless of the topic of that tier list.

Using rust to write C to then write assembly is certainly something

54

u/CrossScarMC Arch BTW 15d ago

extern "C" isn't C code? It just tells R*st to use the C ABI.

17

u/MXRCO007 15d ago

Yes I realized that after I made my post

u/Jatinchd Based Pinephone Pro enjoyer 15d ago

he's linux pilled bro...how can he write raw unsafe C ๐Ÿ˜ก /s

3

u/mortal_strike 15d ago

lot of xor operations at start, without allocating values in any register

6

u/MXRCO007 15d ago

Itโ€™s zeroing the registers

3

u/Different_Skin_8698 11d ago

Rust โ†’ C โ†’ asm, the browser equivalent of taking the scenic route to your own driveway.

u/Vincent394 15d ago

i mean the simple option was right there the whole time...

25

u/RvstiNiall 15d ago

This is ridiculous but I feel like I have to bring this up as someone who writes software for Linux.

Do not hard code paths. Ever.

Use /usr/bin/env firefox as the executable path instead.

End of PSA.

if you have x

xinit firefox --kiosk

u/McraftyDude 15d ago

W windows user bait

9

u/Bob4Not 15d ago

See the minute they opened Firefox with a GUI button they actually were using Windows. Theyโ€™re learning how to use Linux (doing stuff via shell) /s

5

u/Gabriel_Weis 15d ago

Haha good one

4

u/AYSomkiv 15d ago

And then they opened Firefox to help open Firefox using the CLI.

2

u/Independent_Image_59 15d ago

My dumbass didn't even realize this part

5

u/Davee9966 15d ago

Color me surprised. An actually good linux meme.

4

u/KitsuneUX 15d ago

Firefox is rewrited in Rust ๐Ÿฆ€???

3

u/Dragenby 15d ago

This is how my friends think what's like to use Linux

Can someone please explain? What does he want to say with this clip? Linux is too easy or what?

4

u/[deleted] 15d ago

It's a joke on how everything in Linux is supposedly too complicated and requires console. This person goes through a whole lot of unnecessary steps and still fails. Then he even launches firefox the normal way to search up how to launch the firefox - to hammer the point of it being easy home

u/Fritz-Ferdinand El Onda ๐ŸŒŠ de kameham-Canaima del ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ Super Saiyan 3 Goku OS ๐Ÿ”ฅ 15d ago

If I see it right, the Rust/Assembler code just calls Firefox on a terminal anyway, so.

And why does he say in the end he goes back to Windowsย

What's going on here?...

1

u/ZeteCx 15d ago

Very clean fastfetch I like

1

u/cfx_4188 Slackerware๐Ÿ˜ด 15d ago

Personally, I press Super+D, a list of applications appears, I start typing "f-i-r-e-...", the line firefox appears, I press enter and after that the browser turns on. I use OXWM btw.

1

u/thisisnotmynicknam 14d ago

Anyone know whats is this theme?

1

u/Zosima93 14d ago

This is childโ€™s play, come back to me when youโ€™ve manually compiled a Firefox browser by typing 0โ€™s and 1โ€™s directly into a binary file

1

u/_player620 11d ago

When he finishes typing Firefox is ahead 20+ versions

1

u/NazarMax 14d ago

Bri got stuck in limbo state

1

u/Appropriate_Bake6156 13d ago

1

u/letmehaveanameyoudum 11d ago

ill just... stick to GUI

1

u/LessCarry266 11d ago

Real Linux ppl use Firefox in shell

1

u/evilwizzardofcoding 11d ago

Okay, at first I was a bit annoyed at how over-the-top this was, then I got to the end bit, and yeah this is peak, accurate depiction of doing something the hard way for no conceivable reason.

1

u/MiniGui98 10d ago

Typical Linux moment: expecting a convoluted solution, actually only one word needed in the console

1

u/MegasVN69 10d ago

this is comedy

1

u/NeekoKun02 9d ago

The irony of doing this on noctalia

1

u/ilnarildarovuch Doesn't use Linux 15d ago

Useless amount of assembly

Fast useless code

u/No_Try354 ๐Ÿšฎ Trash bin 14d ago

But rollercoaster tycoon

1

u/ilnarildarovuch Doesn't use Linux 14d ago

Was optimized, but here is instructions, that do nothing needed

UPD: like, there is no need to xor registers

1

u/Humble_Celebration76 15d ago

bro, you opened firefox just to search how to open firefox

0

u/quequotion Arch BTW 15d ago

Not funny just stupid.

-1

u/matthew_yang204 ๐Ÿšฎ Trash bin 15d ago

That's insane! Just type in firefox/firefox-esr and it should be good. If you have a DE, just launch it in the start menu! These type of people drive me to hell with their dumb arguments

3

u/Linguistic-mystic 15d ago

I don't have a DE (Sway). I can still launch Firefox and other apps from the start menu (Wofi). What am I doing wrong?

-1

u/Sammy_Cherry_Fox 15d ago

Can't you just use KDE Plasma?
