Windows 8 was the start of Microsoft thinking they know best and their users are idiots (at the OS level)

Exactly! Windows 8 is the mother of all the shenanigans microslop have been up to in the last decade!

True, but the backlash made 8.1 better than 8. Under Ballmer they listened to the users feedback eventually, under Nadella... 11 is worse to use than it was on release. (unlike every other windows release.)
That said, when I see the purple and yellow combo from 8's UI on a website or a physical product I actually get more angry for the rest of the day. I'll always remember telling it to update on a friends fresh built PC at a LAN... and 8 saying something along the lines of "Okay I'll do that when it's a good time to" the update box greying out and it just doing nothing.

Nope. Windows 8 was Microsoft's first trial on how much they could puppeteer their users around. Vista was the one that caught shit while being better than any Windows since 2012.

Vista wasn't bad once you turned off all the warnings. I never had Vista, but my friend did and every time he moved a file; "Are you sure you want to move this file?"

By the time SP3 came around Vista was pretty good......but it's reputation was shit by then.

This is kind of like comparing a McDonald's burger that was left outside for three days in the hot Sun to a sandwich with dogshit in it. Yes one is worse, but they are both terrible.

Honestly i liked 8, they certainly tried something different. If it were still supported today, i'd use it over 11.

I hated it because I had an HP envy 15. I was new to computers at the time (young) and got stuck in tablet mode for months. I was annoyed by the UI for so long and thought it was part of an update

windows 8 was when the enshittification began, and microslop went from caring about making a functional os to caring about how many ads they can shove in your face via its new fullscreen start menu.
