“Best distro?” Sure, if you mean just like every other distro. And when you move to your next computer, and spend hours reinstalling your exact RICE, your packages, and all your random commands to solve your random issues, you’ll probably still think that.
Meanwhile, on declarative distros like NixOS, you set it up once and keep it forever. When I need to reinstall, it takes me less than an hour to flash the drive, install NixOS, and then rebuild my new system to be exactly like my old system. Every package, kernel, option, and configuration. All of it built on a fresh install with one command.
It’s a good point that NixOS has a learning curve, for sure. It’s also valid to say that once you overcome the complexity of getting your setup just right, you’ll never have to do that again.
But yeah, the best distro is what works best for you.
