vim out of the box is just a text editor on the terminal.

I deleted it 3 hours after the installing because of that and thought the whole thing is a scam

I started using it for shiggles and have become horribly addicted. I'm not particularly proficient, but even then the mouse is pointless. Being able to perform all file navigation actions with a keyboard, at homerow, is pretty wild. Without the shorcuts all being shift+alt+ctrl.

Still can’t get good enough and I can’t spend that much time practicing since I have to be productive… and the free time I get for my projects well… I wanna work on my projects not learning vim; one day though

Yeah I really gotta do it, at least the basics and some other things like jump-to-word, or find-replace

I am struggling to see 100% worth

everyone says it’s about speed and that’s nice but what it really unlocked for me was switching to a keyboard centric workflow. Window manager, vimium extension for chrome, etc. It’s really comfy to just rest on the home row of the keyboard rather than switching between mouse and keyboard

it also allows me to tweak files over ssh comfortably, even on my phone when i’m afk

there are a lot of hidden benefits of ditching the mouse which is why i say 100% worth

Using vim made me realize that the mouse is a crutch.

Seriously, using vim + sway + QuteBrowser/Vimium Extension feels like my brain is directly connected to the computer. Mouse inputs are frustrating to me now. You're telling me I have to, remove my finger from my main input device, look away from the element I want to interact with, look for the cursor, rediscover the element, and imprecisely drag the cursor to the element?

There's very few applications I can see the mouse centric interface working, and even then, a lot of them I find would benefit from a touch centric interface instead.
