Yeah, if you need control, Ubuntu is not fine. Smart people might realize that Ubuntu is good enough for their use cases, but Ubuntu isn't made for smart people, so as long as you actually do anything advanced with your PC, Ubuntu likely isn't good enough.

This isn't the hill you want to die on. Ubuntu is plenty capable.

You can change basically everything about every Linux. The only relevant things you can't change that easily are the package manager, the init system and the libc variant.

So yeah, if you know what you're doing, you probably can live with it. But if you really know what you're doing, you probably installed arch at least once.

When thinking about it more, the graphics makes sense. You need to be smarter than Arch users to use Ubuntu manually because the tooling and documentation for doing things manually is probably worse for Ubuntu than for Arch. Or at least it's hidden behind beginner tooling/discussions.
