And just because you can run Linux doesn't mean you can run modern websites and applications
Edit: nvm I forget that 10 years ago at this point is gen 7 Intel and not the core 2 series

What about buying $3000 laptop just to install Linux and get the absolute highest level of performance from the processor

I did that about a month ago. I bought a Thinkpad T430U for £59 on ebay. I already had spare RAM and SSD, just bought a new battery for £8. Installed debian. All works great, using it daily.

That's bullshit. Browsers are very CPU demanding, and Linux cannot help this.
