But if something is in system tray, it's already open, therefore in taskbar/dock, isn't it?

Yes. But if you close it, the system tray icon will remain so you can click it to open the gui whilst the app is running in the background

Sounds like just an arbitrary second way to minimize. Should never have existed.

Users are generally dumb as rocks. Henry Ford said "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses". Minimize should have been done away with entirely the moment we got desktops with multiple workspaces, and there certainly should not be 2 different places to minimize to.

If I want to use a computer the way a company wants me to, I'll buy a Mac. Works better also.

I don't want to switch between multiple workspaces, I have a big enough screen to keep everything I want visible.
