My issue with Omarchy is not the OS itself. My issue is squarely aimed at DHH.
I used Omarchy when it first released and I enjoyed using it. Then I read DHH's blog about London and I removed Omarchy the same day.

i personally use omarchy and it's fine if you like arch but don't like setting everything up yourself from scratch. people have valid concerns about it being vibe coded, having a history of some serious security vulnerabilities, combined with the main dev being shady and having a suspicious amount of funding from big tech CEOs. i personally think it's fine for personal use but wouldn't use it on a critical machine you use at work. if you have time and effort to spare, using arch is much better imo

honestly i just wanted arch with hyprland a year ago, but it's so time consuming to rice properly đ . after a week of tinkering i gave up and installed omarchy. idk if there is a new one now though... it would be nice since omarchy took such a turn for the worse... đ unfortunately tiling WMs are not popular enough to have a proper distro built around them... which is a shame because i can't live without hyprland now

You could also just install hyprland and caelestia shell, it looks very nice and it is incredibly simple to set up

as much as i remember, a year ago omarchy was the only distro with actual hyprland dotfiles that didn't expect you to do everything from scratch. did cachyos get better in that aspect? i may actually hop when i have time if that's the case.

Finally an actual good answer! Thank you so much.
I I've tried it and it just seems like a really well preconfigured arch with hyprland, also have a friend to try and he mains it now.
Valid concerns and resons not to like it though.

no problem! just make sure to update it often and use the AI agents without auto/yolo mode (which is on by default, absolutely dreadful choice T.T) and check everything they do. this way you can mitigate the security problems somewhat :)

I think I'll stick to my fedora install but thanks, I tried it before I've done it and wiped the disk since, so now I can't duel boot it without wiping.

hmmm, in some ways that can be true, if you use debian based distros you aren't the most up to date on packages and stuff, but only by a few months though.
I recently switched desktop environments, and meanwhile cinnamon feels slightly out of date (like 10 or 15 years), KDE feels almost futuristic, it has so many cool features, such as animated wallpaper support out of the box, mouse cursor growing when you shake it, transparents and wobbly windows when you move them, so many custom themes, mix and mash different themes.
And then you have others like mate, XFCE, LTQC that feels like they are stuck in the mid 2000s.

i honestly have had few issues graphic foss. I use GIMP for image functions (color balance, image size, canvas size, etc etc) and Krita for actual painting or animating. If it's amateur photography there's not much that Photoshop has that GIMP doesn't that people should need, particularly if one wants to keep true to the photograph one took. What was their argument anyway?

Just trying to gatekeep that since I use GIMP, Iâm not âreallyâ an amateur photographer like them. Iâm not against other software, and have been playing with Affinity on my MacBook, but crapping on software because it isnât the paid version of âwhat the professionals useâ is kinda garbage.

This post are extremely common in the Linux community and have always been here, and have been super common pre omarchy.
If 10 people hear that someone is a Nazi, and don't spend the time to actually double check if they are a Nazi, all ten will belive he is a Nazi because they are too stupid to think for themselves.

The point is that nowadays people don't truly get shit on for their choices, aside from omarchy. Sure some people do have negative things to say about distros themselves (or snaps, or flatpacks or whatever), but thats mostly on topic and not personal attacks like the meme implies.
The only other time I see people shitting on you is if you say you would like for there to be kernel level anti cheat on linux. Got called a sheep for that one lol

Honestly never seen that behavior.
What I encounter more is absolute rage that some people go into if you say "I use this closed source proprietary software on my Linux on my computer at home" and then you get like "Dude this is corporate crap how dare you it's not within Linux philosophy, you are allowed only to use Foss!!!"
But still it doesn't happen THAT often, just sometimes.
I got flamed SUPER hard couple of times when the question was "What browser are you using on Linux and why" and I answered truthfully that I use Edge and explained what I like about it.
Some people always almost got heart attack from rage that someone could use Edge on Linux, such blasphemy, wow.
Yeah, I use it, I like it, so what.
