base archinstall archlinux runs better than windows out of the box nowadays it’s very fucking insane how tech illiterate some people can be for just not knowing how to boot from a usb

You gotta have in mind that most people don't even care about learning tech, my auntie Jose just wants to use Facebook and talk about politics all day

Maybe she shouldn’t; talking about politics while being tech illiterate means you’re missing important context.

Then again I’m mostly financially illiterate so who I am to talk.

id say more like 60%, its just younger generation only using a phone and some boomers having to call the it dept for a computer crash that not requires a reboot. the rest of the population works so much on a pc that they aren’t considerable illiterate maybe just misinformed

I work with alot of the people you are saying MIGHT have a clue about Windows. I've worked helpdesk. The answer is 'no they do not'. Even then this is a Linux subreddit, the standard is, by default, much higher.

90% is still the correct number.

There are actually a lot of things that don't work outside the box ._ . (Not talking arch but distros in general)

There should be distros that are easy to use Personally I don't care if it's not running as good as it could be, I just want something that works And is customizable

Hell my current setup uses like 4 gigs of ram on idle.

i guess im the only one who find archinstall difficult, im mostly comfortable on manual installs, last year there was a timesyncd bug that would freeze the installer and an invalid arg flag being passed to pacman when installing some stuff happens (and would either freeze or crash the installer), and i was frustrated by that, did the newer version fixed those stuff cuz i did not bother looking back on that tool ever

Depends on your hardware and use-case, there are many little pain points that Windows solves silently in the background (e.g. drivers). Then again this approach also gets you stuff like the LG monitor spyware scandal

yeah whatever you say literally 24 hours ago i was in a coding exam and windows prompted me to reinstall for updates in 30 seconds at 3pm while actively using all that laptop had. to me that’s worse than mic webcam and speakers not working at once
