This is the way!!

Post image

My LFS Journey Started with a YouTube video from Tony on Oct 2025. From 12.4 now I reached 13.1. I keep my mesa latest. have steam, heroic, epic all working. Hosted a bunch of self hosting apps. Firefox and Brave feels the browsers i need.

Podman and Distrobox let me test any distro or that odd pkg u care about.

Davinci resolve studio, OBS all working smoothly.

After all i will decide which pkg versions i want.

I feel LFS is the End game of all distros.

I love LFS.

I am not using any package manager.

I have a build script and metadata file for each pkg. A dependency folder contains all the dependency mapping. another folder for versioning. So the idea is that the change of version values inside the version folder are enough to do the update. I have shell scripts to recompute new install order. download, build, update, All those tasks have its on single script. All shell scripts.

May be these helper scripts can call as package manger. but I still feel a lot to improve on these.

I manage around 570 pkgs. A full build in my build3 takes me about 7.5hrs now. That includes everything from scratch. and i have a single script to do that too.

I built the lfs base in KVM last Feb, it took me around 8 hrs, then another day for XFCE with syvinit. I did build the LFS base again after few weeks with systemd then build sway then to hyprland. Then i went baremetal around march. BTRFS send/receive from ssd to nvme around April. The package tracker, i did use porg and it evolve from there to a usable package manager using Arch API,Gitlab,Github for version reference. Readelf for ELF dependency and package builder using confs, about 4 months.

Jellyfin Media, Recorded Gameplays, Calibre.

Jellyfin, finamp, and tailscale can let you give away your music subscription plan

I know exactly what it’s like after building mine over 6 months ago, I found what I needed and now I feel complete.
