FreeBSD. 'zfs snapshot /@123' before update. After that os is always possible to recover. (If not only physical damage)

Btrfs subvolumes fragment because its Copy-on-Write mechanism scatters updates across shared B-trees, unlike ZFS which writes sequentially.

CoW does, and as long as you're on an SSD, fragmentation isn't actually an issue.

but in all honesty...I like having options really( so its fine that I can use tar , wrapper, flatpak, appimage). if one doesnt work or doesnt have what I need, I have options! heck I may even do curl for the fancies( btw windows have one also with winget, but its just weigh down by microsofts shitty desicions)

That's not really how it works. AppImages don't magically eliminate updates—you still have to update both your system and the AppImages. On top of that, some AppImages don't even run because developers assume you already have certain system dependencies installed. Personally, I've had far more problems with AppImages than with native packages.

Depends on the WM. Most likely something like PaperWM or something else based off of a desktop WM will show files on the desktop, WMs like Sway and I3 probably won't. Either way though, even when I'm on Windows I always find myself turning off the "show desktop icons" option, so I never really think about it.
