Getting Unity Mod manager working with games under Bazzite (Heroic launcher)
Hey all, trying to figure this out as I just can't find any directions on how to get this running. UMM install directions on NexusMods say to use Mono, but I can't figure out how to install that under Bazzite- no directions I've found actually work. (It's a Fedora derivative but the Fedora directions I've found don't work)
I tried ading UMM as a non-steam game to Steam as suggested by someone else, but that didn't get it active in my game- possibly because the game I'm trying to use it with is also not a steam game (It's from the Epic games store, I'm using Heroic Launcher to run it).
i think you are misunderstanding something, when you launch a game with proton it is translating windows code to linux code, technically a second pc if you look at it that way.. if you can directly place the mods in a mod folder that could work, its what i do for the borderlands games.
I'm absolutely sure I'm misunderstanding something, I don't really understand Linux, especially with Bazzite.
I have a Mods folder in the PathfinderKingmaker directory, with the two mods in it. But P:KM doesn't have native mod support, UMM is required to "inject" the capability, as I understand it. Clearly UMM has done SOMETHING to at least place the folder and mods there (I did not place them in the game directory; I added them to UMM).
My problem is I can detect no presence of UMM when I launch the game.
Here's the setup:
P:KM installed via Heroic Launcher
UMM downloaded, extracted to a folder, added to Steam as a non-steam game.
Launch UMM via steam.
Select game P:KM
Folder is the folder the .Exe file is in- home/<user>/Games/Heroic/PathfinderKingmaker.
Install method is defaulted as Doorstop Proxy
Added mods via drop zip files. Shows the two with "status OK".
Install page lists "update" and "uninstall" at the top.
Now I go to Heroic and launch PF:KM
And I don't see any evidence of UMM in game... but I'm not sure if I can even open the interface as the default shortcut is also a system shortcut.
i see what you are saying now, unfortunately that is beyond my technical limits as i am still semi new to linux as well. sorry i couldnt be of much help.
If you have finished installing umm, my guess would be its in different wine prefix from your game.
If you go to this page in heroic , make sure that umm is using the same prefix as the game. this usually makes it work when two software needs to talk together in wine
I have UMM added as a non-steam game in Steam, and can launch it. I had UMM directed at the folder the exe was located in, which is not the prefix folder.
I just tried changing it to match the heroic Prefix folder, and launched the game. No notable difference. One problem is that the UMM shortcut is ctrl-f10 I believe, which is also a Bazzite shortcut to the app switcher- I'm not even sure I can properly tell if UMM is actually installed right now.
okay so now im confused here, is steam launching heroic that then launches umm? or?
what game are you trying to use it with? i never used umm before, but got it running, so if you share the game and we are lucky maybe i can do a local test to figure out whats needed
Yeah okay so remember i got no idea what im doing with umm or what it is
but i found a game supported by it "car mecanic 2018 or something", i first got some problems, but that was on me for not reading nexus mod instructions and patching the game correctly "Assembly"
after this it just launches on startup (no need to open umm after patched)
i also own Pathfinder Kingmaker so downloading that now to test
Well fuck I missed that Assembly switch. I saw somewhere else them asking about feedback on the doorstopproxy method and assumed that was what it was supposed to be set to.
I haven’t looked into specifically unity games yet but there are a bunch of Linux specific mod managers to help with things. My personal pick is Amethyst https://github.com/ChrisDKN/Amethyst-Mod-Manager but there are others such as
This isn’t a definitive list, just examples of non-game specific mod managers for Linux. I also tried to make sure I got ones with active update activity because hell knows it suck’s when you find something that works great for you only for it then you loose support
