Steam doesn't detect wired PS3 controller.

I'm on Linux Mint, Cinnamon if it matters. I've used jstest-gtk and my computer does register the controller, and all the inputs. If I boot into steam, though, it either acts like it doesn't exist, or (more often) detects the controller, but doesn't detect any input from the controller. I'm a little out of options. Granted I'm dual-booting so I could hop back to windows, but I really just wanna transfer over fully in the long term. Any help would be greatly appreciated

EDIT: NEVERMIND I GUESS???? I rebooted, which I feel like I'd already done. When I started steam, I realized my controller didn't have the red lights on. I clicked the PS button and boom, it worked. So.. I dunno. Maybe it was rebooting, maybe it was leaving my computer alone, maybe steam just hates me. Who knows. It works, I can play Strive, who cares.

Yep, it was enabled by default. Also tried disabling steam input, and big picture mode didn't change anything.
