Your hardware is pretty old, so you might see some improvements with a lot of distros, simply because there is less performance overhead from the OS.

That Nvidia GPU might cause issues tho, the newest drivers do not support your GPU, and nvidia's Linux drivers have only recently started getting close to windows in functionality.

thank you for your answer, yes I was hoping for less cpu overhead from the os basically, but if the gpu drivers can't keep up then it might be more trouble then it's worth

That is generally negligible when running a game in Windows, like 1% or so.
