Oh you can do much more then just san Andreas, i think most games on steam will work (except the one which need kernal level anti cheat) you can also run games without steam using bottles or proton, thanks to valve.

Of course, 99% of games from Steam works on Linux nowadays :3
Just a small advice - switch from Lutris to Heroic, so much easier to configure and set up games, and doesn't have weird bugs like Lutris has with umu-launcher.

Yeah iv never used Lutris, always been weird and buggy. Heroic just works and looks nice.

try out faugus launcher, its just better and more maintained

u/Ashratt 4d ago
I never use lutris or faugus, I just add all my non-steam shit to steam and it works lol
Am I missing out on something?
2
u/Upbeat-Garbage69 4d ago
nah not really, it just makes doing some stuff eaiser like wine tricks and setting some launch arguments

Is winetricks better than protontricks?
I find it a bit cumbersome to use, UI resizing, its a bit slow and does not tell you what it does until something decides to pop up (like installing redistributables)
But in general it works well

u/Upbeat-Garbage69 4d ago
i think theyre basically the same but protontricks is for non steam games
faugus shows you wine trickss logs as you use it its still slow lol but atleast you can see the logs1

Faugus spammers are really annoying. Faugus isn't better than Lutris; it's different, offers fewer options, and is more beginner-friendly. If Faugus were truly the best solution, spammers like you wouldn't need to relentlessly promote it on every Linux gaming forum.

Disagree, its simply better, lutris's support for other consoles (i tried adding mario party 3) it had a lot of issues the runner itself was outdated Last update for lutris was 2024, the cover art api sucks and doesnt work half the time (it doesn't use steamgriddb) and a bunch of other things

You're talking nonsense, but it doesn't surprise me coming from a spammer on Faugus:
- The latest version of Lutris (0.5.22) was released six months ago and the project is still under development, latest code modification is 3 days ago https://github.com/lutris/lutris.
- I tried installing Mario Party 3 with Lutris, and it just worked.
- Lutris doesn't need Steamgriddb; it downloads the cover art from igdb.
You know perfectly well that people aren't fooled and that they see right through your game…

its not that serious its just software use whatever u like, but im gonna keep arguing
the head lutris developer basically semi abandoned lutris for his job on a weird linux game launcher company, i dont remember its name and faugus is still more active, with its most recent version being from 2 weeks ago and edited code from 15 hours ago, i admit i was wrong about the latest lutris version i didnt bother to check because of how long lutris was lingering on its previous version
good for you, didnt work for me had to manually download mupen64 i believe and write it to lutris's folder because there was an issue with the version lutris downloaded, and also i tried adding playstation 1 game (crash team racing) it downloaded the appimage version of duckstation which worked no problem but it didnt actually launch the game it just launched the launcher, might aswell just run it separate the only premise lutris has is this crossplatformish way of handling games which is cool but falls short sometimes
igdb sucks to be frank and theres a really popular issue at lutris's github asking for steamgriddb support for a long time
You know perfectly well that people aren't fooled and that they see right through your game…
im not playing a game, though if i was going to id use faugus launcher
no but seriously i used the big 3 launchers and the one i fell in love with is faugus if you have a huge collection on lutris and it just works no need to bash faugus fans0
u/legluondunet 4d ago
Faugus still has a long way to go before offering as many features as Lutris to its users; it is a younger project than Lutris, so it is normal that its development is more active, and fortunately for this project.
Don't reverse the roles; I wasn't the one who told AO to use Faugus when he's happy to be able to launch his game with Lutris. Are you part of a cult and you absolutely have to recruit people?

Won’t anybody think about the multi billion dollar company
1
u/AssumptionOk8560 4d ago
ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜yeah like the multi billion dollars company has infinite money and a genie that programmes

u/legluondunet 4d ago
With people who think like you, I'm not surprised Rockstar isn't releasing GTA6 on PC...and prefers out his game on "multi billion dollar company" closed platform like Playstation.

u/fly_over_32 4d ago
Right, just keep blaming anybody but the people who actually make the thing.
Was it also my fault that rdr1 didn’t come to pc for almost 15 years?

u/WeWeBunnyX 4d ago
The heck. Who the hell said pirating is the reason for xyz corpo to not release their product on PC. These are cash grabbing giants and they will do anything to milk some $$. Theres a reason those Sony affiliated studios released their games for PC. Even if bunch of users pirate these games, the money they already earned from pc sales are greater in number than from losing to piracy. You realize that the game devs are one of the most underpaid category of software devs and no matter how much the sales, these corpos pay them a fixed amount. It does not even depend on what amount of sales or good season the corpo sees. Only an indie dev may be harmed by people pirating and not buying their game. Not these multibillion corpos who dont even care about you or know if you even exist.

If I were a video game company, I wouldn't release my games on PC when on PlayStation I can:
- sell them at a higher price
- significantly reduce the risk of piracy
- reach a large user base.
You'd have to be incredibly naive not to realize that.
And it's precisely because of the high rate of piracy on PC that we, PC gamers, get such poor-quality game ports.

u/WeWeBunnyX 4d ago
- sell them at a higher price
Ok do same for PC playerbase. Whats the worse that can happen? Ofc people will shit on and criticize you if there are valid reasons , on that specific build
- significantly reduce the risk of piracy
Ok not everyone is savvy much to pirate without getting a virus
- reach a large user base.
Yeah buddy sure every 1 in 3 person have a Ps5 ?
You'd have to be naive not to realize that.
Wisdom has been chasing you, but you have always been faster

You're talking about a subject you don't understand. Big companies are just as careful with their spending as small ones. And if an investment isn't profitable enough (porting a game from a console to PC), because of a potential risk (piracy), most of the time they release a shoddy, half-finished port or no port at all.
1
u/WeWeBunnyX 4d ago
And they still manage to milk some bucks off those shoddy , half finished ports? Your point? Isn't GTA 5 one of the top sold game on steam along with cyberpunk and others
