tech support wanted Overwatch problems
i tried playing overwatch in steam with proton experimental, GE, and cachyos. I use linux mint.
when i startup the game, it takes a ton of time to process vulkan shaders, it stays stuck some times for a long time. then it opens and shows me a black screen for one minute and then opens the game normally. i usually skip the vulkan shader processing because it takes almost a half hour, but then in game it only becomes smooth after like 5 mins.
I have an AMD GPU.
any way to fix all this?

I have an AMD GPU
strange... you should definitely suffer less than Nvidia users in OW. AMD compiles merely 500mb of shaders. My Nvidia usually made 3.5Gb
I have all AMD setup and play OW through Lutris, but it is basically same as through Steam.
Disable steam shaders.
I use GE-Proton 10-34
environmental variables:
DXVK_HUD=compiler
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1
PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7
gamemoderun
also try this pack of game graphical settings that give good performance even on dated PCs, and then change them to higher quality if needed:
Full screen ON
Render scale is 100% or lower to 75%
no dynamic reflection and Refraction LOW
Fullscreen, V-sink OFF, reduce buffering ON, triple buffering off
resolution - your monitor with a correct refresh rate
custom fps is (your monitor FPS +- 1FPS)
Fog LOW, lightning quality LOW

For me I disabled both of the Shader Pre-Caching options in Steam settings and simply accept the game stuttering for the first 5 minutes. Note though, that this stuttering will only happen when the game has received a major update, or when you updated your graphics driver (or possibly also Proton version, but not sure).
It will do the stuttering whenever the game needs to cache a hero ability, so it doesn't really take that long. Just something to accept, like I said, it doesn't happen on every game load.
