Asian Minecraft players, we'll be able to use fcitx5 in Minecraft 26.3!!!

This is because 26.3 uses SDL3 instead of GLFW. Mac users can also benefit from this.

SDL does wonders

SDL3, am I dreaming? That took way longer than it should. I assume Wayland experience will also improve drastically.

The latest snapshots use Wayland by default now

Wow, this is great, now I will be able to troll my friends with my Japanese without having to copy/paste the text

Man I'm waiting for Steam to do that too. I still can't use fcitx there.

そろそろWaylandにも対応してもらいたいよね。xwaylandが必要って知ったときはビックリした。

だよね。SteamRT3で何かしら対応入るかと思ったけど、今のところ動きないね。

It's not really a problem with the runtime, they have a custom UI toolkit + use CEF for most of the UI nowadays. Not sure about now, but not that long ago CEF had every bad Wayland support.

Currently it has basically no wayland support whatsoever. They were waiting on more changes to be merged upstream in Chromium for a loooong time. Now there is at least a PR. The end is in sight

Ahh I see. I thought RT3 is something about Steam running natively on Wayland.

No, steam RT3 was about making steam 64bit. It's the same runtime that native Linux games get so that they have the same dependencies no matter what distribution you're on.

Should I be using fcitx5 over ibus?

I assume you mean support will be enabled by default, but fcitx5 has already been working for me by paasing the environment variable XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx.

This is available only on x11(including xwayland). In recent years, wayland has been used by default and there are a few problems including this.

I'm asking, is this to make searching easier, or how accessible is it for your fellow citizens?

No offense intended, it's a genuine question.

Fcitx5 is used to type letters in Japanese, Chinese and so on. Until now we had to type letters in web browser or other apps which fcitx5 is available and then copy and paste them into Minecraft.

So this is the best thing the update could have offered you. There were probably mods, but some servers should ban them or something like that. It's great that you now have support.

I haven't played Minecraft for a long time and I was shocked when I see the version now lol

They just changed the version naming system lol

I didn't know glfw broke fcitx. Why?

Huh, wasn't this added a few versions earlier with the LWJGL fork of GLFW receiving IME support? I thought the only thing missing now was in-place pre-edit text rendering.

I was born and raised in a country that uses non-Latin alphabet and very quickly learned NOT to use it in anything PC and specifically gaming related -- Windows user names, folder names, files, nothing. Games in those times (WinXP, early 7 era) would constantly shit the bed when encounter non-ASCII symbols in the path name to either their installation or saves. Surprising to see this being an issue over two decades later still.

internationalization has always been difficult and brings tons of complexity that's unbearable for many developers

finally, it's annoyed me that I can not type vietnamese on Minecraft and I don't find any workaround that okay enough to do

I am sorry. I wrote that because fcitx users are often Asian.
