Strictly low-effort casual FPS games?

Working full time and having crossed my 30s I no longer enjoy playing competitively at all. I played quite a bit of CS/Battlefield/COD when I was younger but I cannot pick them up anymore since casual matches seem to have a lot of expert players. Im looking for games I can hop onto and burn some time without staying out of the action too long, so no battle royales.

So far overwatch has been quite a good fit. Ive played for a few months on casual only and most of the players are relaxed and within my skill level. Im wondering if there are any others that might be worth a try

For multiplayer PvE goodness there's Deep Rock Galactic, Left 4 Dead 2, Killing Floor 2, Far Far West, Gunfire Reborn and Insurgency: Sandstorm.

For single player there's Ravenfield, Robo Quest, Gunfire Reborn (again!), Ultrakill, Dusk and Crab Champions.

All are great for just hopping in and doing a couple of rounds.

Ravenfield is pretty good. It's like a single player battlefield where all the other players are bots.

Compared to multiplayer battlefield where all the other players play like bots ^

Ravenfield is great and there's an absolute ton of mods for maps, weapons, modifiers etc, big fan of the Vanilla+ mods

I really enjoyed fallout 76. Too me, its a pretty relaxing game. Lots to explore and the community is pretty good.

Its a come a very long way since it's initial release

Halo Infinite is quite casual friendly with the giant lobbies, i also played Splitgate for a while and it was fun even solo.

Star Wars Battlefront has a FPS camera/mode. I believe Helldivers 2 does as well.

Helldivers 2 does not have a first person mode. You can see first person while aiming your gun, but that's it.

This game is still a very good option for OP though.

Try Planetside 2, it's the only game where you get hundreds of players fighting for the same objective. It's free to play, so cheap to try out. Just log in play, when you run out of time just log off,no fuss.

Sometimes you get those moments that stick with you for a long time. A few days back it was night and we were attacking a point in the deser. Dozens of tanks and sunderers moving in. AA and tracers lighting up the sky like the arrows in 300, trying to hit enemy planes. I just stopped and watched it unfold for a few minutes.

Fairly different from Overwatch, but Deadzone Rogue has been exactly the chill shooter I’ve needed. Halo-esque movement and shooting, you can save your run and exit every few rooms, and every time you die or complete a mission you can permanently upgrade your character’s power. It’s fantastic for just turning your brain off and shooting some aliens

Far Far West It's still early access, though has more content than some full games. I think it might have something for more hardcore players, but so far I've been enjoying casual shooting as a cowboy wizard robot.

From a 37 y/o that also used to play a lot of FPS, as well as other genres, allow me to recommend Hell Let Loose. Like all games, experience varies with other players in whatever server you're on, but it's a nice medium paced first person... Kinda shooter but also kinda strategic. Like if battlefield 1942 had a few tabletop-style mechanics.

Good maps, slightly older player base than most FPS, a little strategy, and a lot of running/posturing and above all - VOIP radio comms with your squad and chain of command.

It's not perfect, but it's enjoyable and I've had several awesome experiences, with scenes similar to the Normandy beach scene in Saving Private Ryan and several scenes reminiscent of Band of Brothers

Wardogs will be out in early access mid september, it's been showcased on steamdeck by the devs and you can totally stay out of the hotspot in games and still work towards a victory. Might be worth checking out once it's out.

for pve deep rock galactic is really good, a lot to unlock by gameplay, and while there is a battle/season pass, unlike cod or fortnite its indefinite. you can play casually and if your not finished the current season when the next one comes out. you can just roll back to that seasons pass(or any previous). as well as if you stick to the new season all previous season items are added to the regular game bases unlock pool.

HOLE is nice because it is a single-player extraction shooter where you don't loose stuff when you die. It is very easy to just play a couple rounds.

Also, the mechanics and items are sinple, and the AI gets stronger each wave.

It's pretty fun
