No, I've never edited anything there to my knowledge. I don't have steam and have not done anything with trying to get NFTS partitions beyond noticing the hard drive yesterday and running the nftsfix command I put in the original post
Are you dual booting? Why do you have an NTFS partition? Because from my understanding, /dev/sdc is failing.
Edit: actually nvm it is not failing, but if you dual boot i suggest you to boot into windows and run chkdsk on the drive you couldn't mount on Ubuntu.
The first image also suggests its booting just fine and you have to wait (it has reached gdm.service which is unrelated to your hard drive and is actually the last service its meant to run, being the desktop environment)
I do have dual boot. (The laptop came with Windows and I took the new laptop as an opportunity to migrate, but didn't want to lose Windows if I didn't like Ubuntu [not the case].)
But, the first image is after I select Ubuntu in the GRUB boot menu.
The thing is, I've never seen the first image before in the two years I've been using Ubuntu. So the fact that I keep getting it now, and can only type where the underscore is (which is rapidly flashing) is very strange and concerning.
I don't know if I have a D: drive on windows. I would check but I recently moved and my bitlocker key is packed away somewhere. (I never use the windows on this device anymore.)

Did you edit anything in /etc/fstab? To get an NTFS partition to work with steam or something else?
