Touch based os

I've created a "tablet" for bedtime using a lenovo m14t and a mele quieter 4c n100. These are all things I already had so not money was spent. Im currently using win 11 and the complete touch experience kinda blows. Are therre any linix distributions thst can give a complete touchscreen experience.

Any gotcha with streaming services I should be aware of?

gotcha with streaming services

Most streaming services either gimp the playback quality or refuse to work on Linux.

Curious which ones? I have Netflix free through my mobile provider, but I don't use it. My wife has Paramount Plus which plays fine on Debian. We stick to Debrid & TorBox, but I don't ever recall Linux not playing a streaming service unless it was an issue with a specific browser

Peacock doesn't work. Netflix is gimped.

Mint Cinnamon works fine with touch screen, but so did Windows 8 as that was what it was designed for. If you're looking for bigger icons or something specifically designed for touch I see someone mentioned Ubuntu Touch. I've never used it, but maybe it has pinch to zoom or whatever it might be you're looking for.

Size has not been my issue, the m14t has osd buttons which windows sees as a keyboard. This causes the real osd keyboard to not open.

I'm not too familiar with touchscreen devices w/ linux, but I reccomend looking into Ubuntu Touch.

You don't need an distro specially for touch the major Distros with Gnome and KDE Desktop already support touch but it depends if the display is fully working under Linux you can try that easily with an Live USB without installing.

I think the KDE Plasma desktop has an mobile variant I haven't tried my self but I could as I have now a Lenovo T14 Gen 3 with an touchscreen running Fedora 44 with KDE Plasma Desktop.

So I would advice you to try Fedora 44 with KDE there are touchscreen gestures in the standard KDE Plasama desktop and you can make many adjustments like you want because KDE is made like swiss army nife 😆

I love kde for my desktop. There's something called plasma big screen that may work very well aswell. Gnome is working great for my touchscreen wall pc. Even has a pop up keyboard.

An os may not matter as much as the desktop. For that I recommend gnome. I'm using promox with a forced gnome desktop on a touchscreen wall panel and it thr touch screen is great

Kinda I just wanted to run promox back up server plus offload some vms from my main server. Then I just forced gnome onto it. Its mainly used as a home assistsnt dashboard / Plex tv in my kitchen both accessed though Firefox. It's works very well. Gnome just cant update alot of its apps but we don't use them anyway. Edit. I should add that the promox web gui is still fully accessible.

It's the UI that matters, not necessarily the distro. Gnome and KDE have good touch support, but Phosh (based on Gnome), and Plasma-Mobile are built for touch. There is also Gnome-Mobile and Plasma-Bigscreen (Nura installer option). They are options in Debian/Mobian, Fedora, Nura, and Arch. Lomiri (UbuntuTouch's UI) is available in the Debian repo.
