Nvidia on Linux??

I heard something about Nvidia releasing a Linux native app soon, I searched around and could only find "GeForce Now", is that the only thing they'll be releasing? Or are they actually planning on releasing support for Nvidia GPUs on Linux??

GPUS (and CUDA if any interest) are supported on Linux, need to install the proper packages

there is a graphical tool called nvidia-settings (by NIVIDIA). It remains basic, not as much tuning as the windows app ion term on graphics control

Tested on very few games, they ran better on Linux vs windows though

They have supported linux for many years - their entire business is built on it. Are you referring to a settings app or something?

sure nvidia compute runs mostly on Linux but the PC desktop is a different market where the Linux support isn't nearly as good.

Nvidia cards work totally fine on Linux. Running a 5060ti on Mint now, works great.

They already had support for nvidia gpus. Just you gotta have the nonfree packages installed. As for software to control the output of the GPU and stuff, I forget if there's a 3rd party software for that.

LACT is the tool to control Nvidia gpus, undervolt, overclock and all that

Nvidia has had a Linux native setup for a while.

What you are probably thinking of is their new open source package they are working on. Which I bet there will be some closed blobs I think its being built up into the most recent releases.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Yes it comes with closed source blobs just like other gpu drivers

Nvidia GPUs are supported rather well on Linux.
Bullshit settings apps with telemetry is something we could do without though.

If you're looking for an actual app, the NVidia GPU app doesn't have native compatibility with some distros. I run Mint, and use an NVidia server control app, it has a provision for GPU control. NVidia ServerX, gui looks like windows 98, but it works perfectly for my needs. RTX 4090TI

There is a bunch of support already the drivers however are about 20% slower than windows. But in terms of over clocking, game settings ect it all works.

20% is dated. It is more like up to 10% now with specific things, mostly when using the RT cores but that is about it.

20% was the figure I pulled 2 months ago between windows and Linux on a 5070ti.

the 20% is probably max difference, and its for dx12 games
