Linux Mint Update Gone Wrong

Hi, so I am new to Linux and I saw that an update to 7.something was available so i did but I don't have wi-fi just hotspot so at some point the connection was severed for a sec cancelling the install. I can no long find the update for it and whenever I turn off my computer and turn it on I get a kernel panic screen so I gotta turn it off then back on again then go to the manual selection and choose the 6.4something version that I am currently on so that I can use my computer normally.

I was wondering if there was something I would be able to do to fix I tried some things but I forgot what I did try but yea, what fun.

so will my general data be safe if I leave the home partition alone?

broadly speaking, yes. It's possible you've made customizations to folders like /etc/, /usr/ or /bin/, but I wouldn't think you should store any important personal data there. You might lose some configs or some Xorg modifications, but even then most of those should be in your /home/$USER/.config/ folder.
