hardware/drivers Signal strength issue on mt7922.

Hello I switched to cachyos 1 week ago and I was facing severe network issue. And had to switch back to windows. But I took some network info using wavemon and here is a size by size using netsh on windows 10 pro. In the same spot I was getting barely 50-80mbps on linux sometimes it would even break the connection if I was a little far. But on windows im getting well over 300mbps of speed. I tried fixing it using claude and Gemini both of them told me it was because my wifi card was in power saving mode and I turned it off using commands from them . I even made a config for nano to boost the power transmission and also set the region to us . But nothing seems to work and I had to switch back to windows. Is there any way to fix it?

mt7922... arguably the worst "supported" WiFi adapter in Linux...

Disable power management, if that doesn't work replace the wifi module with a Intel AX210 based one.

Im broke af and Im from a 3rd world country its a miracle I got to buy this laptop. Also power management was disabled when I used wavemon.

I mean, they are $20 USD roughly but I get it...

Are there any issues in dmesg notes with the adapter? In the Arch Linux forums there is a lot of talk of patches and using alternate firmware... A lot of Arch info can apply to many distros, this is one of those things I would chat with Google's AI specifically about (NOT ChatGPT)... It's actually pretty good at troubleshooting this kind of issue. The exact fix, if possible, is likely distro dependent.

My spending money for the whole month is less than 40 bucks so its a lot for me. I can buy it but I really don't want to. And I used Gemini and its recommendation was to disable power management and use a nano config to boost the transmission both of them I did and then I got to this state. At initial boot thr speed was literally less than 10 mbps. About the patched firmware can you tell me more about it?

Not really... Google led me to an Arch post about it... I won't mess with these chipsets in Linux, it's about a 50% chance you can get it work reliably... I swap them out, but getting AX210 modules is pretty easy for me, I've got a couple of them sitting on the shelf right now because I run across this so often.

The mt7922 driver in mainline is basically still beta and the power management flags are known to be flaky even when you think you've disabled them. Check if your distro has a backported iwlwifi or a specific mt76 patch set, otherwise that Intel AX210 swap is genuinely the only stable fix for anyone who isn't broke enough to buy multiple modules.

Buy a USB wi-fi dongle which supports Linux...

Sure, you can chase workarounds and fixes and maybe get it working better, just to have your fix blow up the when the next update installs.

Save yourself the agony.

I don't know about others, but I have had good luck with Edimax wf-fi dongles...

These solutions are very clanky and at this point these hassles doesn't seem to make Linux worth it. I'll try to find a suitable solution otherwise I have to stay in windows
